Never mind the big stuff, I'll bet there are no Homeowners' Associations in Estonia, and that few cities have a Code Enforcement Division.
The US needs a privacy amendment to the Constitution.
What a pile of crap, UK ranking higher than US, and North America lower than Europe? Apparently "Liberty" has a very different meaning to a liberal socialist who came up with this "Index."
Anyone have any good info on Estonia for travelling to or investing in??
Gosh, now that I have learned that I'm not all that free, I guess it would only be responsible to try and determine which specific freedoms Estonians have that I lack. Or not. Good morning Estonia. Enjoy your freedom.
My next door nieghbor married an Estonian lady recently. It's interesting to hear her take on Ameicans .. she thinks our liberals are abject idiots.
I would love to retire in Costa Rica.
Don't get too stressed out about this result. Many people consider North America to also include Central America and the Caribbean so this might have altered the result. You also have to add a hefty amount of reasonable error. But with that in mind, the relative rankings (+/- 10 positions) are fairly accurate.
What is particularly interesting is that the only major purple countries are the US, England, and Canada--i.e. the Anglosphere. It is also interesting to look at the blue countries--most of our major allies. And then the green countries--our associates (friendly, but not really strong allies). And finally, our enemies or antagonists in dark yellow or darker. It matches pretty darn good! A little too good to be a comfort of liberals who always claim that we base our foreign policy on money instead of freedom.
I hear costa rica is where lots of libertarians go to. even participate in the political process there.
The Movimiento Libertario is the libertarian party there. However, within the last year or so the party has had internal battles causing many of the ideological libertarians to leave the party, which is now more "moderate".
Estonia has a flat tax (currently in the process of being reduced from 23% to 20%), a constitutionally-mandated balanced budget, almost entirely free trade, and almost an entirely privately-owned economy.
As a result, over the past few years they've greatly decreased unemployment, and they have a very high GDP growth combined with very low inflation.
Canada #3? You have to buy your beer from a state operated store in Ontario. And they call themselves FREE?

But Estonia does deserve a nod for getting its s*** together post-haste after the USSR imploded.
CYPRESS is number 9, right behind us?!? Which side of "the green line" do they mean...Turkish, or Greek?
Or, am I out of date? Or just in the wrong universe?
