We’re Losing World War IV ... How to get back to the road to victory. Persians promise pyrotechnics: "More ominous yet, they threaten to unleash an apocalyptic surprise on us on August 22, the night they believe Mohammed lit up the skies by ascending to heaven from the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem."

As Bush administration officials know but sometimes seem to forget, today’s struggle might well hinge on ideas, not armies.

This is the kind of sophomoric conceit one would expect of a college kid. The fact is, moslems don't have ideas, so there is nothing there to influence. Radical moslems just need killing, in large numbers.

If there is any "war of ideas" at all, it is domestic, as the sleepy, distracted burghers of the States and Europe slowly come to the awareness that their comfortable, effortless civilization is under brutal assault, and by no means invincible.

In truth, WWIII was really the Cold War, in which the USA and the west had won. In truth this is WWIV.

I beg to differ. They have Islam, jihad, convert, dhimmitude or die.

Also, though today we are not fighting state vs. state as in World Wars I and II

I disagree.

Al-Qaeda is the Sunni/Wahbbist Muslim community. Those countries that are responsible either directly or indirectly: Saudi Arabia, Syria, The Former Iraq government, Afghanistan, The Sudan and others. These countries merely use their proxies to conduct their wars for them. All of these countries are responsible for 9-11 in my book.

Hamas is a proxy for the entire Arab world against Israel.

Hezbollah is just a Shiite proxy for Iran and to a lesser extent Syria. Iran is, through Hezbollah, instigating the current trouble with Israel.

Terrorists need state Sponsorship for training, weapons, intelligence, etc. Without it, they would merely be Religious cults on par with Branch Davidians.

Back in the days of Reagan it was accepted fact that all terrorism had state sponsorship to one degree or another.

Why did this change?

It is my belief that the Mainstream media made the distinction between Terrorist groups and their state sponsors and that the Clinton/Gore administration upheld this notion by treating each Terrorist act like it was a Criminal act by individuals rather that an act of war by a state which sponsored these acts.

The "War on Terror" is a ridiculous misnomer. Did FDR declare a war against "Surprise Attacks" after Pearl Harbor? Of course not.
This should be a War Against Militant Islam. Our Leaders are too PC to be honest about it however.
PC could very well lead to the end of Western Civilization.

I'm not sure these qualify as ideas. More like givens. In any case, there is little room for dogmatic true believers to reflect or examine the premises of their dogma. the prospects for "winning the minds (forget about hearts)" is dim.

Yeah, but even if we went all out, you can never completely put out the threat of terrorism. You can never get them all, and it only takes a few to attack. This will become even more true as time goes on. WMD's are going mainstream, and all we can do is slow it down.

Thank you for reminding me. It seems the "good War" of Clinton was in fact a war to aid the very islamofascists we are fighting now.

Its really a shame how badly children can screw things up when given real responsibility.

Sadly, we in the US may be ready to do the same thing again.

What a shame then, that we will never have a parade for all the "WWIII" vets who served in that "cold" conflict.

Of course we ain't asking for one either.

Watching the Berlin Wall come down was more than enough reward for me. For those who think that war wasn't "hot" I know of people who were summarily executed after being caught conducting surveillance on the Eastern side - and their families couldn't be told of the true nature of their voluntary heroism and sacrifice.

I pray that this war on Islamic Domination finds us saving this planet from a fate literally worse than death. Our politicians dancing around the truth is not an indication that they truly understand the scope of necessary resolve or the consequences of failure.
