Sri Lankan Sinhala soldiers who were removed from Muttur Town by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had launched bomb attacks on the St. Anthony's Church where more than 600 Tamils have taken refuge, local sources said.

Three people were killed and the other hundreds escaped by a hairline, sources added.

Buddhist Butchers had in the past bombed St. Peter's Church in Jaffna killing hundreds, massacred hundreds at the Holy Madhu Church and recently murdered five people at the island?s largest church located in Pesalai, Mannar.

So much for peaceful Buddhists.

I'm no Buddhist theologian...but I was suprised to hear a recent book on
Pol-Pot speculated that his Buddhism contributed to his reign of terror.
I guess it was as though it helped him resign himself to the ugly work of
re-making his society, even if it mean piles of bodies.

I never heard any Buddhist complaints about the book...but then there's
only one society today that I know of that will threaten to kill
writers and book-makers.

I think I'd look for another source. This one's about as objective as Al Jazeera, methinks.

You have to take it in context. Tamil Tigers are a terrorist group who have been murdering Budhists and Christians for the past 20 years or more.

It's not as if the Budhists were attacking the Christians, just the group who took over the church to hide in.

"Buddhist Butchers"

Some heavy metal group will adopt this name.

And as far as "Budhist" terrorist groups go in general, I'd think it has to be a very small, weirdo group, much like those baptist "Christians" who go protest at the funerals of our brave soldiers.
Niether are representitive of either faith.

It's only a Catholic church, not a mosque.

What's the big deal?

Any communists who derived their deranged beliefs in part from religious upbringing are far worse the ones that were communist from the get go... Lenin and Trotsky were Jewish, Stalin was Orthodox, Castro was Catholic, and they all turned to communism, combing into thier philosophy the worst of their respective dogmas...

Methinks you are right.
Unless people are familiar with the problems that have plagued that region for decades, it's hard to understand what going on there. Suffice it to say, the Tamil Tigers are a nasty bunch. Like some Seikhs, they think they are some kind of Muslims (at least some Siekh secs do), They are a small spin off group from Hinduism, which formed about 300-400 years ago. The Tamil Tigers are another branch from that, More politicaly motivated than religios, except for the killing, which they adopted from Islam

Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin were all Babalonian Talmadic Orthadox Jews, or rather, they came from that kind of family background.
It's really unfair to say they were practicing Jews however.
They were about as Jewish as Hitler was Christian.

Most Buddhists have no qualms about using violence in self-defense. "If you are unwilling to protect yourself, how can you protect others?" This, however, can be distorted by those who need an excuse to gain power.
