ONE IN 3 AMERICANSSAY U.S. AIDED 9/11
NY Post ^ | August 3, 2006 | By THOMAS HARGROVE and GUIDO H. STEMPEL III

More than one-third of Americans suspect federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new poll. The survey also found that 16 percent of Americans speculate that secretly planted explosives, not burning passenger jets, were the real reason the massive Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.

The national Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.

Widespread resentment and alienation toward the national government appears to be fueling a growing acceptance of conspiracy theories about the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Suspicions that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job quickly have become nearly as popular as decades-old conspiracy theories that the federal government was responsible for President John Kennedy's assassination and that it has covered up proof of space aliens.

Seventy percent of people who give credence to these theories also say they've become angrier with the federal government than they used to be.

Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."

"One out of three sounds high, but that may very well be right," said Lee Hamilton, former vice chairman of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.

His congressionally appointed investigation concluded that federal officials bungled their attempts to prevent, but

It is a little beyond belief but I do know that many folks are questioning why, despite hundreds of billions in defense spending and planning, we were so vulnerable that morning....listening to some of the recently released 911 tapes I'm amazed at how utterly confused and unprepared these folks seemed at the prospect that someone might actually be attacking us.

From further down in the article:

The survey was conducted by telephone from July 6 through 24 at the Scripps Survey Research Center at the University of Ohio under a grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

The confusion and chaos was the evidence it was not orchestrated. Show me the terrorist attack where the reaction was calm and prepared--there's the one that was anticipated.

I just went to the Scripps Howard Foundation's website. They don't put a copy of the annual report on-line. You have to request the info. Wasn't that nice of them?

Spot on!

The MSM keep repeating the same mantra day after day after day; BUSH BAD, CONSERVATIVES BAD, LOSING IRAQ, ECONOMY TERRIBLE, etc, etc, etc and people start to believe it. Most of the sheeple don't take the time to do more than read the headlines or watch the boob tube 10PM news, and that is all they ever hear. It is a self fulfilling prophecy with Hitlery as the main beneficiary.

The anger displayed is also the result of the same phenomenon. If the MSM simply keep telling us day in and day out how bad things are, people's anxiety and anger increase until they are upset and angry without even knowing why. That is why the conspiracy theories look so good to so many. It is secretive and shadowy and gives them a justification for their inexplicable angst.

A good anecdote an an example. A woman that I know and like quite well and I were talking the other day. She is a good, intelligent person and was describing to me how she had the best job she ever had, making the most money she ever had and then added the disclaimer " Bush not withstanding,". I almost had coffee come flying out of my nose! I asked her to explain to me how she could say that after telling me that she was doing better than she ever had in her whole life (she is no spring chicken), and she could not. Her only explanation is that "everyone" says it's bad, and "all you have to do is look at the papers".

Folks, it is easy to blame the DUmmies for polls like these, or to blame the pollsters (not that they aren't complicit) but the reality is that these are the true sentiments of a lot of people, and they are only going to be reinforced by the MSM for the next several months, and then heavy for the two years following that as '08 approaches.

this is the same third of Americans who think Jerry Springer has something to offer by way of entertainment-ever watch "Jaywalking" on Jay Leno-it's scary-there was one history teacher who thought Winston Churchill was a US President-this is the fault of our shools-my daughter is a special ed teacher with a masters and starting on her Phd-she is pretty well read and I was amazed that she never heard of John Pershing even though she went to a really top notch high school and a decent college-apparently they don't teach history or geography anymore-except to mention such "great" Americans as Cesar Chavez and Malcolm X-what asewer this country is turning into thanks to liberal scumbags infiltrating like roaches into every area of the development of our children

Easy. Most of our leftists are either socialists, muslims, terrorists supporters in some way..therefore, they are all the same and beneath even contempt.

I think the larger question is that if news reports are accurate we only had two fighters in the NE area and two at Langley to protect the entire E. coast? Obviously, these could not have been all of fighters the fedgov would have appropriated for such a large area would it?......were there some other excercises going on that morning either with NORAD or FAA?

Let me guess, these respondants would see a third Bill Clinton terms as the perfect way to end the abuse of power in Washington, D.C.

Well, we've had our morning update on the walking dead...

Would be interesting to see poll results concerning the OKC bombing and TWA-800.

And, don't forget that there were far more incidents of rapes and questionable killings in Kosovo, but I don't even recall the word "atrocity" being used at that time.

More than one-third of Americans suspect federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them...

Excepting the incredibly broad scope of the statement "assisted...took no action" which most rational people would differentiate as separate criteria, it is no surprise that 33% would think that.

Of course the real news is 67% didn't, but that isn't a dark enough color of black for the MSM to paint the picture.

The US aided 9/11 by being pansies in responding to Islamic agression for the last 30 years. One terrorist act after another and it takes the WTC to collapse before we roll up our sleeves.

I don't think these morons are looking at it the same way though. My two little sisters (21 and 18) each tried to talk to me about this a few weeks ago after having seen loose change. It was neither a long nor civil response I gave them.

I'm not sure flight 93 wasn't shot down (the passengers are still heroes) and shooting down a plane over DC makes no sense. I sure hope we're not revealing how many fighter jets we have in the air at any given time. Maybe the NYTimes will leak it for you.

On the other hand, giving them your personal information might be one way to insure that you are never bothered by a phone call in the middle of dinner to respond to one of their idiotic polls.

Before I would give much credence to this poll I would want to know exactly who was polled, where, what were the precise questions, etc. Just looking at the following from the article and one notices plenty of room for confusion.
Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."
