More than one-third of Americans suspect federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new poll. The survey also found that 16 percent of Americans speculate that secretly planted explosives, not burning passenger jets, were the real reason the massive Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.
The national Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.
Widespread resentment and alienation toward the national government appears to be fueling a growing acceptance of conspiracy theories about the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Suspicions that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job quickly have become nearly as popular as decades-old conspiracy theories that the federal government was responsible for President John Kennedy's assassination and that it has covered up proof of space aliens.
Seventy percent of people who give credence to these theories also say they've become angrier with the federal government than they used to be.
Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."
"One out of three sounds high, but that may very well be right," said Lee Hamilton, former vice chairman of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.
His congressionally appointed investigation concluded that federal officials bungled their attempts to prevent, but

Plans in the 60's to set up Cuba as behind terrorism as a pretext to war. JFK said no.
150% of DUers polled say US aided 9/11.
No....1 in 3 American's are stupid.
'zilla only asked for three. I remembered Alito and Kennedy, Ginsburg, and Breyer. But I did forget the name of the oldest member (Stephens). And I don't know how, but I couldn't think of Souter's name.
The same kind of thing is associated with the OKC bombing. Probably most don't know who won the Peloponnesian War or if it was democracy against democracy even though enough time has passed for everything to come out about it that ever will.
I read about this poll yesterday. Today's article left out a very important parpagraph:
"Members of racial and ethnic minorities, people with only a high school education and Democrats were especially likely to suspect federal involvement in 9/11."
I can't even imagine this being true. I don't know a single person who believes that. If it is true, then I am glad I live where I live- I would not want to live where people who would believe this lived. I would get into too many arguements.
Cooked polls with that good ole Zogby Special Sauce added.
BS Alert!
I marvel at the stupidity and lack of reasoning ability of the left.
To plant explosives in a building to demo it requires thousands of man-hours; it means tearing out existing walls and floors to get to the columns. The columns themselves then have to be rigged and prepped exactly right with explosives. This has to be done to EVERY COLUMN IN THE BUILDING AT MANY LEVELS. All kinds of equipment needs to be brouht in. Then the whole thing has to be wired, office workers have to be moved, etc. etc.
All of this at each building.
Then all the workers, foremen, managers, company personnel involved have to keep their mouths shut.
Surely someone in the twin towers (and Bldg 7!) would have noticed all this activity?
That's ok, he's not MY SCOTUS anyway.
Who would disagree with this hypothetical survey question:
True or False: The Clinton administration failed to take appropriate actions which could have helped avert the 9/11 attacks.
It matters a great deal exactly how the question is worded... don't take these stories ABOUT the survey at face value.
I guess it's easier for these misguided sheeple to blame the 'devil' they know than the scarier devil they don't, much to their folly.
Probably a lot of the so called Americans they polled couldn't speak English and weren't even in the country when 9/11 happened.
Precisely the Liberal cant. Of course the POV differs, but good intentions pave the road... Do they not?
All valid points.
However, I suspect the proportion of the 1/3 of survey respondents who check the 'helped or knew and did nothing to stop' option because they were thinking about the feeble 'response' by Clinton and his refusal to accept the offer of bin Laden to US custody as being objectively helpful to the plotting of 9/11 is vanishingly small.
The hypothesis that about 1/3 of the populace (assuming the sampling methodology was sound) are suffering from severe Bush Derangement Syndrome (or anti-Semitism cloaked as anti-neo-conservatism, or some
combination of the two) is a far better explanation of the survey results.
This might be an excellent place for another Heinlienism. That one is a favorite of mine in that he suggests the franchise be earned.
Actually the founders had somewhat the same notion but screwed it up by tying it to property and thus heredity. Strictly Old World thinking.
The Onandaga Constitution tied the franchise to Society standing, Clan Mothers, Various Warriors, Sachems etc. Nothing passed without consensus. Hard to imagine in our fractured world.
Oh yeah, as I recall the franchise imposed the DUTY to pack heat.
About one out of 3 Americans is a democrat or someone who votes that way...dumber than dirt.
I would bet the number of Americans who believe in UFO's and alien abduction is about the same
Nice try. He has a history of giving credence to a variety of conspiracy-type theories, including in regards to President Bush. The fact that he made a movie about gov't conspiracies actually titled, "Conspiracy Theories" doesn't help, either.
