When Tim LaHaye talks, the faithful listen—by the millions. The conservative Protestant minister is the coauthor of the wildly popular apocalyptic “Left Behind” novels. The controversial books, which have sold more than 60 million copies, depict the biblical end of the world: the Christian eschatology of the upheaval that precedes the second coming of Jesus Christ, known also as “end times.” LaHaye recently spoke with NEWSWEEK’s Brian Braiker about why he believes the events currently unfolding in the Middle East reflect biblical prophesy.

You are correct "rapture" is not used but there is the description given about the belief. Flying to save one's soul. I have not found anyone yet except for innocent babies who fit the profile of being so good.
God made the New Covenant with the House of Israel and Judah (Jeremiah 31:31, et seq.; Hebrews 8:8, et seq.). Gentiles enter into the New Covenant by faith in Jesus, although Jewish people must place their faith in Him too for salvation and for the once and for all atonement for sins.

I really do not understand the difficulty folks seem to have with basic concepts like
SAME, SIMILAR VS DIFFERENT, DISSIMILAR!
1. ISRAEL NEVER became a nation again in a day as BIBLICALLY PREDICTED
AFTER the 70 AD dispersion
UNTIL
drum roll . . . .
1948! Never. Not once.
2. In the 1800's and early 1900's Bible scholars pontificated about how the Biblical predictions about the king of the north; Gog; Magog; the King of the East etc. could not possibly come true unless and until some dramatic changes occurred. Then we saw the Soviet Union arise. China has arisen. India has arisen. The -stans have broken off and could easily join with China and/or India against Israel.
3. Given the nation of Israel again . . . JERUSALEM is a heavy weight around the neck of the whole world as Biblically predicted. Never has it been close being such as it is on that score today until our era.
4. There are dozens upon dozens of specifics in our era that never occurred before at all and certainly never occurred before in concert.
5. 3-4 SIMILAR things to Biblical prophecies about the End Times might have been construed as in a key direction in past eras. But most of the time, that was stretching things even then. The degree of MANY SPECIFICS lining up with Biblical prophecies literally to the letter has never occurred before in all history and certainly not after the AD 70 dispersion.

There's nothing to contradict the notion that perhaps the Jews will be scattered and re-gathered two or three more times over the next 1000 years before the full number of Gentiles "enter in".

Agreed. I think it's just hard to say whether all Jews, or just some--as with the Gentiles--will eventually enter the New Covenant and be saved; I really can't even try to answer that one with my limited understanding of the Bible.
I suppose it can be interpreted that way. One day, we will get to ask! :)

The pieces are all on the table and parts of the puzzle are being put together on a daily basis.
The events Daniel and the other phrophets were allowed to warn us of will happen in ways we least expect. I'm curious to see how the truth will get out, since humanity has become so jaded and skeptical that we believe everything can be falsified...and truthfully, most things can.
Many people reading these books have never been exposed to the gospel at all.

Folks not being truthful while accusing LaHaye leaves me shaking my head.
Money is not evil. The LOVE of money is evil. Whether one agrees with his interpretation, the Left Behind series has spread the Gospel to many. And THAT is something we are called to do.

Christian faith is determined by a person's relationship to Christ...not by what the person does...That's why the term "Christian" is applied to that person...their relationship to Christ.
Christ, when asked what would be signs of the last days, did not admonish or criticize his disciples for looking/thinking about such events. Jesus's first words in His reply were; "Watch out that no one deceives you..."...He did not say: "You guys...the REAL hallmark of one of my disciples is that they don't ask such elaborate end time scenario questions or look for "arcane" clues". No His first words were a warning of upcoming deceptions...as though they/we were to be aware of the coming times...and to "watch" for them. So, for you to say "REAL Christians" are the ones who do the work of the "Christian living" whist (implied)walking around blind to the current events around them is to lay a rather legalistic trip upon others.
Additionally, I find your use of the phrase "arcane clues" to be rather telling. The "clues" that Christians get their ideas from are the words of Christ and the inspired Word of God. For you to describe the words of Christ and the Bible as merely "arcane clues" reveals your lack of belief in Biblical inerrancy...and tends to indicate a liberal/allegorical interpreter of Scripture.
If, however, you actually believe the words of Christ, we are to "watch"...we are to be prepared...and yes, we are to be about the Lord's work...those in Judea are to be ready to "flee" when the time is right, and the only way they will know when the time is right to flee is because they are watching.
Here's my idea,
I'll send the good folks who believe this my personal contact info.
As the end approaches, they should all send me all their money, (they won't be needing it) with instructions on how to spend it once they are gone.
I will hold their cash in trust until the rapture or 180 days wichever comes first, then if there is no rapture, I will return most or some of the money.

Interestingly we now attend a church which has MANY Jewish Christians. It's been an incredible blessing to me to get to know them.
