Was Qana Staged? Cont'd [Jonah Goldberg]
A giant banner denouncing Rice and the "Qana massacre" might have been made a bit too quickly.

I don't want to get too far out ahead on this, but I know we've got a zillion printer-type folks among our readers. Do you guys think such a banner could be made in 2-4 hours (particularly in a supposedly war-ravaged area)?

Update: From a reader:

"Do you guys think such a banner could be made in 2-4 hours (particularly in a supposedly war-ravaged area)?"

Heck no. A designer could throw it together in probably 15 minutes or so, but the longest part would be the printing. Notice how deep the reds and blacks are - this means they didn't just bust it out. I wouldnt be surprised if that job itself (requiring special equipment, as it looks to be printed on canvas or nylon, not merely paper) took 6 hours simply to print.

Also, that puppy would be expensive.

Update II: From a reader:

Nope. Not possible in 2 hours to design, typeset, print, assemble and transport to the site. 24 hours if you're really good to do all the above. I say that as an career commercial artist of 18 years now.

Update III: From another reader:

called a close friend who has a very large printing company in NY with the question.  he called out to one of his technicians as to how long a color 30 foot banner would take to produce.  the response was that it would have to be done by a special machine and that machine would take "5 to 6 hours."     by the way, their rather enormous, state of the art (less than 6 months old) facility doesn't even have the equipment necessary to do it.  so make a guess as to what's available in a war-ravaged area...

"Where is the humanity? Why are these massacres being committed against civilians?"

Rhetorical question, but the answer is: because Hamas operates out of civilian populated areas and used these victims for human shields, if not worse.

10' x 30' Banner = 300 sqft.

HP Scitex prints up to 65 sqm (701 sqft) per hour, up to 10.5' wide.

Calculated time to print 300sqft. = 26 minutes.

Scitex was a Tel Aviv company before being acquired by HP, so these should be relatively available in that part of the world.

If Hezbollywood has artists on staff at local printing companies, then the quick production of this banner, regardless of the "faking" of Qana is entirely possible.

I don't buy it, and I don't think we should focus on it. I know it is entirely plausible that Lezbolla would do such a thing, and I think it is a FACT that they are milking this for all its worth, including parading around the same body for different pictures, over and over again, what with the guy changing clothes and all, and the pacifier being added to the baby.

The rest of it, however, can be explained too easily, with non-conspiracy type stuff. If we focus on this, and it doesn't pan out, it will take away from our side of the argument. Which is, that Lezbollah shouldn't be firing rockets from residential areas in the first place. THAT is the war crime.

JVeritas, a freeper with Arabic translation skills has translated it for us at:

JVeritas has also translated many of the captured Saddam Hussein documents released recently by DOD. He has found evidence of Al Qaeda ties to Iraq, WMD programs, and other very items of national significance. You can count on his translation.

Perhaps the banner was printed for some other propaganda, without the script, which was painted on by hand after the event presented itself?

They use a lot of these kind of propaganda banners, they print them by the dozens(hundreds?) for marches, photo ops etc.

I can believe they had pre-printed several different types of banners/images and then chose the Rice banner for the occasion and wrote the words underneath.

The picture of Rice is not particulalry linked to the Qaran deaths. The blood/death images are generic.

The article you linked to at http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,,1833884,00.html
has to be one of the most biased I've ever read. I would be foolish to cite them as a reliable source. A sampling:

The house stood at the top of a hillside on the very edge of Qana and its disembowelled (sic) remains had spilled down the slope. Bodies were lined up on the ground - a baby, two young girls and two women. The rigid corpse of a young man lay nearby, his arm rising vertically from beneath a blanket, his index finger pointing up to the sky.

"Where are the stretchers, where are the stretchers?" a rescue worker cried as Israeli warplanes roared overhead. Sami Yazbuk, the head of the Red Cross in Tyre said they got the call at 7am, but had to take a detour to Qana because of shelling on the road.

In a nearby ambulance the smallest victims were stacked one on top of the other to make space for the many to come. A boy and girl, both no more than four years old had been placed head to toe. They were still wearing pyjamas.

Family photos - one showing two young children - were scattered in the debris. Mohsen Hachem stared at the images. "They had to have known there were children in that house," he said. "The drones are always overhead, and those children - there were more than 30 - would play outside all day."

-However, the Lebanese Red Cross only claims 27 bodies.
-The building was not evacuated for 8 HOURS after the rocket strike?
-The people supposedly could not be evacuated because the roads were bombed, but the reporters had no trouble getting there from Tyre?
-Hez didn’t start the search until the reporters arrived?
-The bodies all exhibited advanced rigor mortis, but were otherwise intact and bloodless?
-A clean pacifier mysteriously appears en route to the amblance?

I'm not sure about the transponder. The battleship definitely thought it was an enemy combatant, though, which is why they used it for target practice. You're right about the bodies having been in tact.

it seems that I always forget something - They also make Black Matte Banner Vinyl - signing off until later tonight.

But they wouldn't print white on a black banner, would they? The white would just remain negative space. So either it was printed on a white banner or the words were added to the banner after the fact.

I don't believe this is the smoking gun, but it definitely points to an operation that was extraordinarily, amazingly quick to respond to the circumstances at Qana. I don't doubt they had someone ready to go to work.

If that was the purpose for the "Already Posted" comments, their posts would be more conciliatory.

Instead of a "Gotcha!" they would contribute something like, "More Comments On The Subject HERE."

Just for my own curiosity about this banner, I asked our graphics man to look at the pix and comment. He says our newest HP printer will only print 60" wide banners (figures this to be about double that) and if he had the graphics ready with only the text to add he could print one 1/2 this size in about 1 1/2 hours. Even with doubling this he feels maybe the timing could be ok if you could somehow discount the mounting and travel time. All in all he feels 2 hours is really impossible, 4 hours could be do-able.

Hez-Ebola knew that the launchers would be bombed for days because Israel had warned them.

Hez-Ebola purposely stuffed a building full of women and children. Then the attack did not knock the building down... my thought is that 8 hours later the Hez-Ebola knocked down their own building of women and children.

Thanks for the heads up & link. I remember some of his earlier translations. Still fat chance any of the 'investigative reporters' will take this up for an investigation. But there are real forensics experts would could examine the rubble and determine the cause of the collapse, just like the bodies could be examined to find out if they died at midnight or 8 am.

I run one of the largest digital printing comapnies in SoCal, and that print would take 3 hours just to print. Even at 4 color, the print is huge. That print was all ready to roll before this happened. Funny thing is they probably used an Israeli Nur printer to make it, lol.
