Our moral culpability for Qana
worldnet daily ^ | July 31 06 | buchanan

Within 48 hours, it was apparent Israel was exploiting Hezbollah's attack to execute a preconceived military plan to destroy Lebanon – i.e, the collective punishment of a people and nation for the crimes of a renegade militia they could not control. It was the moral equivalent of a municipal police going berserk, shooting, killing and ravaging an African-American community because Black Panthers had ambushed and killed cops.

If Israel is not in violation of the principle of proportionality, by which Christians are to judge the conduct of a just war, what can that term mean? There are 600 civilian dead in Lebanon, 19 in Israel, a ratio of 30-1 – though Hezbollah is firing unguided rockets, while Israel is using precision-guided munitions.

Thousands of Lebanese civilians are injured. Perhaps 800,000 are homeless.

Yet, whatever one thinks of the morality of what Israel is doing, the stupidity is paralyzing. Instead of maintaining the moral and political high ground it had – when even Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan were condemning Hezbollah and privately hoping Israel would inflict a humiliating defeat on Nasrallah – Israel launched an air war on an innocent people. Now, 87 percent of Lebanese back Hezbollah, and the entire Arab and Islamic world, Shia and Sunni alike, is rallying behind Nasrallah.

...

For two weeks, Bush seemed unable to find a word of criticism for what our friends in Israel were doing to our friends in Lebanon. He publicly sent more bombs to Israel. He and Condi emphasized that America did not want a cease-fire – yet.

...

Rubbing our noses in our own cravenness, "Bibi" Netanyahu took time out, a week ago, from his daily appearances on American television denouncing terrorism to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the terror attack on the King David Hotel by Menachem Begin's Irgun, an attack that killed 92 people, among them British nurses.

This was not a terrorist act, Bibi explained, because Irgun telephoned a 15-minute warning to the hotel before the bombs went off. Right. And those children in that basement in Qana should not have ignored the Israeli leaflets warning them to clear out of southern Lebanon.

Let go of the hatred Pat and open your eyes and see the true enemy. Jews didn't kill the Marines in Beirut. They didn't take hostages in Tehran. They didn't take hostages in Lebanon and kill 2 of them. The didn't kill a Navy diver on a hijacked plane. They didn't blow up a truck in the basement of the WTC or shoot CIA agents at the gate. They didn't blow up the Kobar towers killing US Airmen. They didn't bomb the USS Cole. They didn't bomb the African Embassies. They didn't bomb the trains in Spain or India. They didn't bomb the trains and buses in London and they didn't fly jets full of people into the Twin Towers and Pentagon. They don't send their children into cafes to detonate bombs among the patrons. No Pat, the Jews have not killed thousands of Americans in the most cowardly fashions imaginable. Please Pat, put away your hatred and open your eyes.

Ah, my poor, misguided friend. You simply do not understand. It's not Hezbollah's fault they lack precision-guided munitions. They are using the only means they have. If they had decent weapons, they would be able to more accurately attack ONLY military targets. In order to achieve fair combat, I propose Israel supply Hezbollah one guided munition for each one Israel uses.

==60th anniversary of the terror attack on the King David Hotel by Menachem Begin's Irgun, an attack that killed 92 people, among them British nurses.

The attack on the King David Hotel was not a terror attack. Read Menachem Begin's "The Revolt." King David Hotel was the administrative headquarters for the British Military. The British, please recall, were turning ships full of Jews fleeing Hitlers gas chambers and sending them back to be murdered by the Nazis (among other things). The Irgun fought against the British with a tiny band of fighters against overwhelming odds. When the Irgun blew the British military headquarters at King David, they called ahead and warned them that the building was about to blow. They even called neighboring buildings and warned them to stay away from glass windows. A British colonel basically declared that he was not going to take any orders from a Jews and barred the doors and held the occupants inside against their will at gunpoint. The bomb finally went off and the people inside payed the consequences of that stupid officers decision.

This was one of the most shameful chapters in British history, and Pat Buchanan is an idiot (at best!) for bringing it up in this context--GGG

Amazing how stupid the well educated, affluent elite of this country are.

No surprise the Moslem world laps up the Islamic propaganda lies.

As stupid as Americans are, Europeans are more so, but Muslems make even Special Ed dropouts look like Einstein.

Talk about choosing to believe lies!

......a preconceived military plan to destroy Lebanon

It is the job of military professionals to have "a preconceived military plan". In the 1930's, the U.S. had a "a preconceived military plan" to wage war against Canada if that ever became a necessity.

Israel's "preconceived military plan" was to wage war against Hezbollah who just happened to have a free pass from the so-called "sovereign" government of Lebanon to use southern Lebanon as a rocket fire-base to attack Israel.

For Buchanan to characterize Israel's response to blatant acts of war as "a preconceived military plan to destroy Lebanon" merely demonstrates that he is nothing more than a demagogue.

"If Israel is not in violation of the principle of proportionality"

Um, I'm not aware of that 'principle'.
Was it followed in WWI, when an assassination led to a war of millions killed?
Or WWII, where after Pearl harbor (3,000 killed) we killed millions of Japanese?
or (you name the war, they are all like that)?

War is hell. Which is why ...

"This was not a terrorist act, Bibi explained, because Irgun telephoned a 15-minute warning to the hotel before the bombs went off. Right. And those children in that basement in Qana should not have ignored the Israeli leaflets warning them to clear out of southern Lebanon."

... this sarcasm here is so INAPT.
Why yes, Pat, they *should* have cleared out of southern lebanon!!!

Pat Buchanan does not seem to grasp that Qana was a setup orchestrated by Hezbollah to blame Israel for something she didn't do. The evidence has revealed that Israel's Air Force did NOT hit the building where civilians were present. Of course its a tragedy. In war, civilians get killed. Buchanan seems to overlook the fact none of this would have happened had Hezbollah not launched a war of aggression against Israel. And it is a war they're losing and which as a matter of fact the entire Arab world is losing by following the sirens of fanaticism to disaster. Even Tom Friedman, the foreign policy guru of the Left, has said as much. Israel will be in great shape when this particular battle finally ends. The Arabs will on the other hand, be set back decades further behind Israel in civilizational development, standards of living, and technological, scientific and cultural achievements. The Jewish State has whipped their butts and instead of taking an example from Israel, they spend all their time figuring out how to destroy that little country. I don't know who to feel sorrier for, Buchanan who swallows the Hezbollah propaganda, or the Arabs and Muslims on jihadi crack who continue to delude themselves with the insane notion that they're winning even as they're being bested by Israel. Again, a culture of life is infinitely superior to a culture of death.

Moral culpability? Try this ...

http://judeoscope.ca/article.php3?id_article=0429

I lived until 2002 in a small southern village near Mardshajun that is inhabited by a majority of Shias like me. After Israel left Lebanon, it did not take long for Hezbollah to have the say in our town and all other towns. Received as successful resistance fighters, they appeared armed to the teeth and dug rocket depots in bunkers in our town as well. The social work of the Party of God consisted in building a school and a residence over these bunkers! A local sheikh explained to me laughing that the Jews would lose in any event because the rockets would either be fired at them or if they attacked the rocket depots, they would be condemned by world opinion on account of the dead civilians. These people do not care about the Lebanese population, they use them as shields, and, once dead, as propaganda. As long as they continue existing there, there will be no tranquility and peace.
