Just heard on Fox (Jennifer Griffin)...Israel will not require Hezbollah to disarm for a cease fire to be accomplished.

Can't post to TV news. Maybe you can instruct.
I'd bet on No. 2 in your list. Bibi waiting in the wings? I believe he has been in Israel meeting with Olmert in the last couple of days.
Maybe the conversation went something like this:
Olmert: The UN, the Arabs, Kofi Annan, the whole world is on my back to pull out of Lebanon. Who cares that these rockets are still raining on the North, those citizens only have so many votes. I have announced to reporters that we have decided that we will pull back and implement a unilateral ceasefire immediately.
Likud/Netanyahu: Allright, then we are calling for a vote of no confidence and I'll be Prime Minister.
Olmert: Peres, call that reporter back and tell her no ceasefire.
ROTFLMAO
Israel needs to treat southern Lebanon as if it were a giant crab trap.
You bait the trap. The crabs come. You trap the crabs. The crabs die. You rebait the trap. The crabs come. You trap the crabs. The crabs die. You keep rebaiting, trapping and killing until crab season closes when there are no crabs left.
What's your opinion of this, DK?
Just a hunch, but I wonder if there isn't substantial internal disagreement as to how to prosecute this war. I saw Ralph Peters on Fox earlier and he said that he thought Israel was making a big mistake by not obliterating the Hezzies with overwhelming power. I think there are some in Israel (like Bibi) that would agree and would like to see Olmert out of power). Just MHO.
Mistake #1 is never believe a "Breaking News" report from the Middle East. ....especially one without a link.
(Israel has denied this ridiculous report).
Thats why nothing is happening right now. And the Knesset will know when, count on it.
How do we know the Israelis aren't obliterating the Hezzies with overwhelming power? Would the media report it? I think there's major psy ops going on--let the islamopigs think they're winning and more of 'em will come pouring in to join in the action. Might as well kill them now rather than later. Hope Israel keeps on for as long as it takes and takes out as many enemies as it can.
Post #129 was meant for you.
It is easy to be fooled by the Drive-By Media. Always remember who they are and where their loyalties belong: liberalism. They put their liberalism before their reporting, their country, their faith. They have nothing in common with Israel and reality.
The trick is to look at things as they are, not as your emotions color them. This is a learned behavior, worth having. Liberalism is all emotional reactions, thus it is a gutless choice full of irrational attitudes and responses. You must see your emotional responses as a kind of disease that must be remedied. Fear will make you overestimate the enemy and act defensibly; overconfidence will make you go too far; anger and impatience will draw you into rash actions; love and affection will blind you to treacherous maneuvers, even of those supposedly on your side. War demands the utmost realism, seeing things as they are.
Judge people by their actions. What people say about themselves does not matter; people will say anything. Look at what they have done; deeds do not lie. As a corollary, look at everything other people do as a strategic maneuver, an attempt to gain victory. People who accuse you of being unfair, who try to make you feel guilty, who talk about justice and morality, are trying to gain an advantage on the war chessboard.
As Sun-tzu said, "Being unconquerable lies within yourself."
Let's apply this to Israel: they are applying a Diplomatic-War Strategy (negotiate while advancing). They are bombing Hezbollah relentlessly, ignoring the UN cries for cease-fire--even for so-called humanitarian relief, calling up reservists, Syria blocking off their borders. But, Israel is turning around and 'negotiating' with Rice.
You must see any negotiating situation where your vital interests are at stake as a realm of pure maneuver, warfare by other means. Just as you must always put yourself in the strongest position before battle, so it is with negotiation. If you are strong, take as much as you can before and during negotiations--then later you can give back some of what you took, conceding things you least value to make yourself look good.
Those that believe that niceness breeds niceness in return are doomed to failure in any kind of negotiation, let alone in the game of life. The goal is to make it painful for them to fight. The lesson is simple: by continuing to advance, by keeping up relenting pressure, you force your enemies to respond and ultimately to negotiate. If you advance a little every day, attempts to delay negotiation only makes their position weaker. You are demonstrating your resolve and determination, not through symbolic gestures but by administering real pain. You do not continue to advance in order to grab land or possessions but put yourself in the strongest possible position and win the war.
You have noticed by now that Hezbollah/Lebanon/UN are all begging Israel to stop. As the days go by, their cries become more loud. This is a sign of their weakness, not strength. Time is on Israel's side.
The great British diplomat Harold Nicholson believed there were two kinds of negotiators: warriors and shopkeepers. Warriors use negotiations as a way to gain time and a stronger position. Shopkeepers operate on the principal that it is more important to establish trust, to moderate each other's demands and come to a mutually satisfying settlement. The problem arises when shopkeepers assume they are dealing with another shopkeeper only to find they are facing a warrior.
Israel knows who they are facing.
Thanks.
Hey to you too~!! :)
It's hard to say what's actually happening behind the scenes. I'd feel better if Bibi were in power. I've always liked him. Not sure about Olmert.
It's kind of strange that so much is revealed to the media. Your hunch might be correct, if the media reports are to be believed. I'm hoping that Israel will defeat the Hezzies one way or another. I've learned alot about their mindset from your informative threads.
Take care and God bless!!!
You are definitely my kinda guy.
DrjKng.
Excellent post!!

BWAHAHAHAHAAAAA.....
Maybe it's just more talk to take the heat off of Israel on the diplomatic front while the IDF continues to trap and kill more allahistas in and around the Bekkah valley..
It appears you have a true grasp of the difference between the 'Strategic' and 'Tactical' components of warfare.
It may appear that Israel is loosing strategically while tactically they are giving Hezbully the full chainsaw treatment. Like a fight between a big oaf full of bluff and a smaller experienced boxer. Right now the oaf is swinging at air while the boxer gets inside his range and chews him up, then steps outside his range and rests.
A plausable example. Each time Israel goes in they know just where to go to attract the rats. The rats come out and they kill most but not all of them. Those that are left to retreat are watched. A pattern developes and Israel knows where they go to regroup. When a pattern is established the rat hole becomes an IAF target. Tactical victories.
Israel may look weak strategically on purpose. Lebanon is calling for a ceasefire and now the Hezbullies are joining them. Syria and Iran may join them from a false sense of strength.
If Israel can stay the course for another week or so they may very well get all the conditions they need to gain a strategic victory.
In the overall big picture it matters little either way. Jacobs trouble has begun!
