Stephanie Drinkard is a single stay-at-home mom with two little girls. She moved back to Nacogdoches a month ago from Louisiana. There, she was on Section 8 housing, food stamps, and Medicaid, but she can't get that help in Texas because of a contest she won back in October.
"I went online and entered," said Drinkard. "I didn't know I was gonna win it. Only like two people won - it was me and somebody else - but it's a 2006 Limited Edition Toyota Avalon and it's like a $40,000 car."
And $40,000 exceeds the limit the

I can't help but think that somebody at Social Services has had to have suggested this idea to her! As far as I can tell no one at the SS office is trained in financial planing. I can't help but think that if we must have welfare that training people how to manage their money should be part of it.

***Even if she doesn't sell it, she's going to need $10K for the tax man.***
Exactly right.
My point was that per the article she's going to have to sell it as it seems like she can't exist without public aid Welfare.
And I'm sure she's oblivious to the tax implications from getting that 'not so free' $40,000 car.

How will she even afford the gas?
If I was down and out and won a car like that, it would go up for sale and the money would go to feed the kids and help me find a job.
People just expect too many free hand-outs!

Many a freeper had had humble beginnings.
In fact the Libs dont seem to understand that many a freeper lives a frugal life.
The difference is conservatives strive to improve while libs stagnate and offer no incentive to self improvement

If all the rich people gave all their money to all the poor people, in five years the rich people would be rich again and the poor people would be poor again."Deserved to be repeated!
Some people just don't care, though! (put down the cup and go pee first!)

I read a great quote. Can't remember who said it. "If all the rich people gave all their money to all the poor people, in five years the rich people would be rich again and the poor people would be poor again." Great qoute. It really is a state of mind isnt it?

Not really supposed to eat the noodles because of the high fat content (type 2 diabetic) and heart problems. However, when pinch comes to shove and that's all you have, you eat it. Comes in several flavors. Have gotten through many lean days with not much food around with these noodles.

++++Since you brought that up, what about those people on that show Extreme Makeover -- how do they pay their taxes, property and gift? And how to their neighbors feel when THEIR property taxes go up because of the new values in the neighborhood?++++
I've never seen Extreme Makeover, but you're right. I'm sure these dolts (thanks to publik skool edumakation) don't realize what they're getting into come April 15th.
And IIRC that's mostly why Banks stopped 'giving away' free stuff for opening an account. They'd value some stinking $50.00 toaster over at $400.00 (or some equally bogus value) then send out 1099s in January to the surprise of the now not so happy customer.

I was wondering when you were going to post your pic. We've all been wondering who was on the other end?
How's bizness? Do you find that your tights tend to blow seams when you fart, or have you discovered the crotchless ones?

I wonder if she's on broadband?Don't you remember Congress passing the "Bandwidth Equity Act" last year? She got her Bandwidth Coupons that made sure she wasn't disadvantaged by a plain ole dialup connection. Next year she gets her HDTV Converter coupons.
