Clemson’s role as baseball host unfurls flag flap (More Confederate Flag)
Charlotte Observer ^ | July, 23, 2006 | Joseph Person

Posted on 07/25/2006 10:19:23 AM PDT by Colonel Kangaroo

Unless lawmakers remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds, the road to the College World Series could become longer for Clemson, South Carolina and the state’s other schools.

An NCAA subcommittee is re-examining the flag issue after the head of the Black Coaches Association questioned why Clemson hosted regional and super regional games before advancing to Omaha this past season.

In 2002 the NCAA implemented a two-year moratorium prohibiting schools in South Carolina from hosting any pre-assigned championships. A year later the NCAA extended the ban indefinitely.

Now BCA executive director Floyd Keith wants college athletics’ chief governing body to consider broadening the ban to keep all postseason contests out of the state.

“At least from our viewpoint, there should not be any postseason events awarded,” Keith said Friday during a telephone interview.

Robert Vowels, commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and chair of the NCAA’s Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, said an eight-person subcommittee plans a teleconference in the coming months to discuss the issue. The group wants to review the original moratorium and the selection process for championship sites in sports such as baseball and tennis, in which the highest-seeded schools often are chosen as hosts.

“The main thing is understanding the selection process and just seeing what’s what,” Vowels said. “Once we can understand processes, then we can go from there.”

The NCAA maintains the same postseason ban in Mississippi, which incorporates the Confederate flag into its state flag.

Greenville’s Bi-Lo Center hosted first- and second-round games of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 2002 because the bid had been awarded before the ban took effect.

Since then, however, South Carolina has lost out on several NCAA-sanctioned events.

• A cross-country regional that Furman had hosted for 21 years was moved.

• The ACC pulled its baseball tournament out of Fort Mill in 2003.

• Officials with USC and the Bi-Lo Center were turned down after submitting bids to serve as first- and second-round sites for the NCAA men’s basketball tourney.

“March Madness is March Sadness in South Carolina because there will be no March Madness here. And the NAACP is in lockstep with it,” said Lonnie Randolph, the NAACP state president.

Lawmakers have not addressed the flag issue since 2000, when a legislative compromise moved the flag from atop the Capitol dome to a Confederate monument on the north side of the State House grounds. Beginning in 1999, the NAACP asked African-Americans to boycott South Carolina’s tourism industry, an effort Randolph said would continue until the flag comes down.

In the meantime, the only postseason games that have been staged in the state have been at the conference level. While aware of the NCAA’s moratorium, the SEC allows its schools from South Carolina and Mississippi to submit proposals to host the conference’s neutral-site championships.

The SEC held its 2005 women’s basketball tournament in Greenville after a scheduling conflict at Atlanta’s Philips Arena forced organizers to look for an alternative site. This past fall the SEC cross country championships were run at Fort Jackson.

However, despite attractive arenas in Greenville and Columbia, event organizers across the state have had their hands tied when it comes to trying to host games in the lucrative NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Said Randolph: “(Basketball fans) don’t drop pennies in your community. They drop millions of dollars in your community.”

Vowels said his subcommittee would study the issue of extending the NCAA’s ban to include all postseason events and would make a recommendation to the NCAA’s executive committee by the end of the year.

Even if no changes are made, Keith, the BCA director, believes the ban has been effective in drawing attention to the flag.

“It’s certainly an issue of awareness that has been supported and embraced by the NCAA. That in itself is a positive step from our platform,” Keith said. “Is it completely eradicated or something we can say it’s done? No. The issue is still there.”

"You couldn't expect a fair fight from a from a class of people unable to do their own work without help of people they "owned".

"That's why I never tire of reading about the way Sherman's March brought reality back to a class of people whose selfishness led the nation into misery."

Absolutely spot on!

The particular class in question politically controlled Washington for so long until the ruling Southern party (Dems) received a sudden jolt of reality via the election of 1860. That year the American voting public issued their mandate, rejecting Dixie's plantation elite and their political yes men.

Instead of accepting the America's election results the enraged slave-holding aristocracy resorted to blatant sedition, instigating vicious terrorist attacks on United States military installations in South Carolina and elsewhere throughout the Slave Power States.

When today's bitter neo-confederate crowd screams about a returning to the era of the 'Old South' it's not the historic antebellum period they mean, it's when southern racial segregation was enforced in their relished 'Old South', however they are also keenly mindful of the inevitable consequences of obvious amplification of brazen white supremacist views, so instead they post the banner of the defeated rebellion (Klan flag), also verbally horsewhip Old Abe, plus forever ranting on about "Damnyankees", while always attempting to unsuccessfully mask their real agenda.

The only one "DUMB & IGNORANT" around here - is your own silly refection.

If the truth concerning your depraved lost cause hurts, good, maybe you can begin existing in 2006, instead of floundering in the depth's of the Rebellion's defeat.

It's a shame you are incapable of responding to facts and only resort to nonstop infantile outbursts. Sad...but then again you exist solely for a failed lost cause.

EVERYONE here is lol AT you.

No chief you've got that backwards.....

Stand Watie's CV as follows as gleaned from his own FR postings:

Employment

1) Current HVAC (Heating and Air Conditioning) Company Employee in as yet undisclosed capacity.
2) Current "Guest Lecturer" at undisclosed College (writes Faculty notes, has typewriter's capital letters modified and does research
although not Tenured Faculty Member.....as of this writing)
3) Current "Policy Wonk" at undiclosed Non-Profit Organization
4) Current Partner in a Security Company seeking Middle East Security Services Contracts
5) Former Professor of Something at an undisclosed Texas Church related College
6) Former English 101 Teacher somewhere (College level English Comp)
7) Former Instructor/Professor at US ARMY Military Police School
8) Former Security Supervisor for a large City/County Hospital (unclear as to why Mr. Watie equates two separate entities)
9) Former Magazine business executive who entertained clients

A VERY busy man obviously

Education

1) English Lit Undergrad on one post
2) Political Science Degree (either MS or BS/BA - not sure)
3) Public Policy Degree (either MSPP or BS/BA - not sure)
4) Public Administration Degree (either MSPA or BS/BA - not sure)
5) Additionally states "i wrote one of my 3 mini-thesis (sic) for my ms on san jacinto." (not stated where this MS was aquired and
unclear as to where one prepares more than one Thesis for a Masters) One might assume logically that "ms" means Master of Science.
Unclear as to whether this "mini thesis" was in support of a MS in Poli Sci possibly claimed or if an additional MS degree in something else as one does not get an MS San Jacinto. ( Apologies, but certain parts of Watie's story are difficult to decipher)
Army ROTC / Joined Army in 1969-74. then to Grad School 1974-1979 but also did Grad school at Tulane in 1976-1978
apparently attending Auburn Grad School concurrent to attendance at Tulane. Somehow during this same period of 1976 -1977 he
was assigned as an advisor with a TXARNG unit with a "Squadron" of M-60 tanks. Maybe part of a Master's Thesis - not sure.
Not sure why Army service was listed as 1969-1974 but could refer to actual AD service period (ref. note 2 below)

Military Service:

1) 20.5 or 25 (depending on the post) years of AUS service as MP/Provost Marshal/specializing in spec ops/counter-guerrilla training, RAP/RAS/division MP ops, VN & Gulf War Vet MOCS 1542 & 31D35. At one time assigned to US Army Crim Investig Command
2) These 20.5 or 25 years seem to emcompass Reserve Duty and AD
3) Carried a sawed off 12 gauge shotgun on duty overseas allegedly as an MP and in direct violation of Military Regulations.
4) Dual Military Occupational Specialties as 31D35 (military police/miltary intelligence) and 1542 (Aviation Adjutant General's corp)
5) Former US Army Criminal Investigations Division assignment. USACIDC
6) Former "LEO" who refers to another LEO as "the idiot in blue, with badge & gun" recalling an alleged incident at the Pentagon
7) Has been anticipating a CONTUS callup to Iraq for AD since at least as far back as December 2003. Seemingly from 2 weeks to 120 days from happening.
This callup would be for a 58-60 year old vet who was retired due to disability.
As of September 2004 still no callup but his business partner and he are awaiting a "security services contract" anytime now that will result in his trip to Iraq.
Said contract apparently has not yet materialized but he is currently (Fall 2005) stating he expects to get his CONTUS orders soon. He has a Master Jailer's Certificate which he hopes to put to good use.
8) 1970-1971 was both in Zwiebrucken, Germany while also being in Texas in 1971 with the TXARNG undergoing testing for his Expert Infantry Badge.
9) 1991-1992 was stationed presumably AD in Venezuela which fits the 25 year service claim but during the very same time period was called up from retired reserve (medical disability) for duty from the retired reserve, "when the 1st bugle blew" to go fight in the Gulf War (official battle engagement date Jan 17, 1991) thus again being half a world away at the same time.

Additional Claims:

1) He is writing a book which will be out in spring or summer of 2005 not sure of topic but perhaps about General Sherman. unsure as to new release date as of Fall 2005.
2) Has an uncle with 2 different names ie: "Wayne Thomas Bankhead" and renamed "William Thomas Bankhead" both listed as PO3s on the USS Champion during WW2.
3) Former member of NAACP until Indians were "kicked out" for being too conservative. This from an organization that never has denied membership to any color or creed,
4) Former member of SCLC were he "knew" both Dr. M.L. King and Jesse Jackson so well he knows what Dr. King personally thought of Jackson. further claims he knew Coretta and MLK's father.
5) His Father knew, liked and was a member of Col. P. Tibbets B-29 flight crew days before the Enola Gay's best "ride".
6) A friend of his named James ____ designed the A-10 Warthog Close Air Support Sled ..... apparently by himself as no other credit is noted.
7) His Army quartersmate was Capt. Damon Runyon relative of the famous author/playwright of the same name.
8) He once had ALL of the active and retired Swiss Military Generals at his home at the same time. All of them. 9) He was a Boy Scout and of course reached Eagle Scout level.
10) His mother recieved a Commendation letter of appreciation from an unamed commanding general "for her assistence (sic) of a vast but incalculable amount to the deployment & troop support effort during Operation Desert Storm".
11) He met Eddie Rickenbacker's (WWI ace) wingman when Watie was 17 years old.
12) At 16 years old (1964) he was the Campaign Manager for a "Bill Miller" who was running for 1st Congressional District of TX (from a Zell Miller thread so not sure of the link there as Zell Miller himself ran for Congress that same year in Georgia)
13) Mantains a Confederate sniper snorked a Union Lt from 1600 yards with mid 1800's hardware and that 1600 yards is "more than a mile" thus pointing out that 1600 > 1760.......but math appears not to be one of his undergraduate or graduate courses of study.
14) Once when investigating a homicide he parked his vehicle seemingly directly over or on top of "a LIVE 250 pound general purpose bomb!" and even more amazing is that when he returned to his vehicle to use his radio, a bystander said "UH, captain, before you move your jeep, you oughta look under the right front tire." This bystander amazingly either was close enough to observe this bomb and know what it was and obtuse enough to allow another unsuspecting person to walk right up to that dangerous situation.

Recent Updates:

15) He is writing a nonfiction book on guerrilla warfare in the West to be published next spring. He is also writing and “alternative history/bodice ripper for you ladies with no definite completion date because he’s starting up a new company.
16) He claims to have worked in the New Orleans Confederate Museum from 1976-79 while a grad student at Tulane. He donated artifacts there as well, although is unable to remember where the NOCM is in relation to the Lee Memorial.

aren't you SMART enough to KNOW that the "author" of that so-called "expose" MADE UP the vast majority of the text, FICTIONALIZED some actual information and "took out of context" the REST????

that's why he got PERMANENTLY banned from FR.

he is, as we speak, ACTIVE as a "well accepted member in good standing" on DU. why don't YOU go join him & the OTHER former members of the "DAMNyankee coven of lunatics, fools, cretins & at least ONE outright BIGOT" over there. you will NOT be missed on FR. (as you exit, take the BIGOT with you.)

fwiw, those who repost the "expose" are likely to also EXIT "stage left", forever.

To: mac_truck; All
let me give you just ONE example (which i explained to the HATER, who REFUSED to change it).this one example is FAR from the totality of the LIES, half-truths, comments "taken out of context" & "intentional misunderstandings", that he "authored" (read: MADE UP "out of whole cloth").

"e-type" identified CORRECTLY that a 31D35 is ONE of the MP officer's MOS, but didn't understand & FAILED to change the "expose" (when he WAS informed of the truth that a 31D35 is an CID officer,"cross-trained in MI subjects".)

furthermore, a "1542 is NOT & never has been an AG/Aviation MOS. rather a "1542" has always been the general MOS (under the OLD MOS numbering system) of an INFANTRY OFFICER.

in other words, he KNOWINGLY LIED to every reader, when he was INFORMED by SEVERAL "vets" of his IGNORANCE, "misunderstanding" of the FACTS and/or his INTENTIONAL DECEIT, when he FAILED to admit his ignorant ERROR and/or KNOWING LIE.

so before you repost the "expose", you should know you are posting a document filled with KNOWING LIES, put together (either ignorantly and/or INTENTIONALLY) by a KNOWN LIAR.

for all your falseNESS, lack of knowledge of the WBTS period & arrogant ignorance, at least YOU (unlike "e-type"!)have NEVER (at least to MY knowledge) ridiculed armed services members/veterans for having served.

his LYING is why he was PERMANENTLY BANNED from FR. you might "think on that".
