Intersting article from the Bint Jbeil site:

U.S. Called Ready to See Hezbollah in Lebanon Role

Steven R. Weisman The New York Times

Thursday, March 10, 2005

[Excerpt]

"WASHINGTON, March 9 - After years of campaigning against Hezbollah, the radical Shiite Muslim party in Lebanon, as a terrorist pariah, the Bush administration is grudgingly going along with efforts by France and the United Nations to steer the party into the Lebanese political mainstream, administration officials say.

The administration's shift was described by American, European and United Nations officials as a reluctant recognition that Hezbollah, besides having a militia and sponsoring attacks on Israelis, is an enormous political force in Lebanon that could block Western efforts to get Syria to withdraw its troops.

On Tuesday, Hezbollah showed its clout by sponsoring one of the biggest demonstrations of recent Lebanese history, bringing hundreds of thousands of largely Shiite supporters into central Beirut to support the party's alliance with Syria and, by extension, the presence in Lebanon of 14,000 Syrian troops..."

The delay could also be that Israeli intelligence has informed the govt that they need to prep for the necessary actions after Hizbollah uses a Syrian/Iranian/Iraqi WMD to prevent it's total destruction.

If one of the terrorist nations gave Hizbollah ANY kind of WMD...they're really sweating now. Hizbollah's survival is at stake and they're not likely to defer to Damascus or Tehran on whether they should shoot their whole load...

Why not just annihilate them now. Doesn't your plan imply that this campaign is over and they should just leave the Hezzies in place, give up more land, and wait for the next war? Please say I am wrong.

Perfect location to cut off a retreat from the south, huh?

Agreed, but it wasn't just reluctance. Lebanon removed Hezbollah from the list of militias in February of this year. Renaming Hezbollah a "resistance group" to avoid having to disarm them as a "militia" was open refusal to enforce 1559.
