WARWICK, R.I. --U.S. Reps. Patrick Kennedy and James Langevin criticized President Bush on Friday for vetoing a bill that would have eased restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, saying Bush had dashed the hopes of millions of Americans who suffer from diseases and chronic illnesses.
The two Rhode Island Democrats vowed at a joint news conference to continue fighting for stem cell research, which supporters say could ultimately produce cures and therapy for spinal cord injuries and debilitating diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
Bush used the first veto of his presidency on Wednesday to reject legislation on embryonic stem cell research that was passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives. Bush said the bill crossed a "moral boundary" and that it was wrong to destroy an embryo in the name of medical research. The House later failed to override the veto.

Of course, from his perspective, in his small world of Congress, the Kennedy Klan, and Rehab, that might just be true.
Why call the President "Shrub" and "Little Bush?" He's more of a man than you'll ever be.
I don't.
Maybe Patty Boy thinks he'll be able to restore some lost brain cells with this research.
Now... we have to absolute worthless CONgresscritters from the smallest, in every way, state whining they don't like what the President did. When either of them make into the White House, they can veto whatever they dang well please.
Meanwhile, Patrick Kennedy and James Langevin - saying Bush had dashed the hopes of millions of Americans who suffer from diseases and chronic illnesses.
They are both free to give all their money to fund the "research" any time they want. All President Bush did was ban MY money from being spent on ESC research.
The moniker was meant to refer to the man's status as the younger member of the family rather than his manhood. However, now that you mention it, although I acknowledge Bush's excellent leadership in fighting terror and picking judges (usually) -- I believe he is pitiful when it comes to such matters as holding the line on spending or controlling our borders. His first veto was only about six years overdue.
Patches could put his money where his mouth is and fund it himself!
I see Molly Ivins has been talking to you in her sleep again.
He's worried DRUNK over it!
Next he'll tell us he got in that accident because he thought he was rushing to a vote on stem cell research.
Stem cell research couldn't cure what ails Patches.
I smell troll.
If these guys are so serious about stem cell research, why doesn't he propose a bill to fund stem cell research of cells taken from adults and umbilical cord blood at the same levels as the previous embryonic bill - or heck, even double the amount? The fact that he doesn't indicates he is not for stem cell research, but just for the destruction of human embryos to provide another cash cow for the industry of "disposable" human beings.
"I smell troll."
So do I...and new troll at that.
There are good reasons, which you're not aware of, for his policies on spending and border control. Because you're new to FR, this might be a good time for you to do some research into the illegal immigration issue. There are dozens of threads in the FR database on immigration that cover both sides of the issue and make the case for very tough border enforcement and deportation of illegals and the opposing case for less aggressive policing of the border and no deportation of illegal immigrants who are productively employed and have no criminal background.
You know, I've never seen President Bush referred to in this forum as a plant. Now you, you're a plant, but hopefully not for long. Thank God someone stands up against the evil of "embryo harvest". Took a man and a woman to make that embryo. It is life.
Spending a lot of time over at DU? This derogatory language isn't appreciated here.
He's the President - he's not a little kid or "Junior."

Boo-frickin'-hoo. Complain about it on a relevant topic in another thread.
Maybe Kennedy thinks stem cell research could lead to a cure for alcoholism....
If they want big bucks for this, why don't they go to their anointed leaders like Soros, Buffett, and Teresa Heinz? They've got more $$ than they know what to do with.
Maybe they can grow his dad a new liver.
The kennedys never use their own funds, They use the taxpayers. In fact they pay damned little in taxes and pay their tax lawyers more than they pay in taxes.
IBTZ!
