Lebanon's defense minister has said the Lebanese army will join the battle to defend Lebanon if Israel launches a ground invasion. (AP)
Lebanon IS Hezbollah - there are no innocent civilians
Creating even more of a power vacuum.
All sides may thinking now is the time to pursue their ultimate objectives.
Actually I think it was very carefully thought out. They are doing the required battlefield shaping. To just blindly rush in would have been foolish.
Golda Meir told Egypt, "We can forgive you for killing our sons, but we will never forgive you for making us kill yours."
How about joining the battle to eliminate terrorists?
Instead of siding with them.
This is a political move, not a military one. The play will be to make a show of using the army, perhaps by marching them around in circles, and beseech the UN to "stop the Zionist madness."
Wasn't Lebanon mostly Christian in the recent 20th Century?
France has an army? What for?
Wait, the Lebanses army would fight Israel but not Hezbollah.
I guess the Lebanese don't really want democracy.
Come on man, you sound logical. You should know they don't work through logic.
Perhaps they supported Hezbelloh much more strongly than they led (or misled) the rest of the world to believe. If so, and if the Israelis reached the same conclusion, Israel's recent operational decisions become much easier to understand.
In any event, the Lebonese government is now reaping the whirlwind of harboring a terrorist organization. Only know they are dropping the pretense of not doing so willingly. Whatever happens to them now, they have it coming.
Parades.
they would have suffered massive casualties. the enemy has never been better prepared for conflict.
If so, they won't join for long.
Hell if the Lebanese Army was active in the southern part of the country, this war wouldn't have ever started over HEZBOLLAH firing rockets.
Exactly.
Whoa. That would have to be one of the dumbest moves I have heard of. If they only delay a few days it will be over and they might actually still have a country.
Which means that they were not only "harboring" terrorists, but are now offically "allied" with the terrorists. Which I hope will create more moral clarity for all those doofuses who are decrying Israel's "disproportionate" response.
This democracy in the middle east thing ain't all its cracked up to be. Lebanon was supposed to be a "moderate," modern Arab democracy. Now this....
In Gaza, they held an election, and elected terrorists.
how the heck can you have a functioning democracy when there's an 800 lb terrorist army in your midst? they wanted a morals free zone playland for muslims.
self determination and personal responsibility becomes a dim light over 3,000 years of Godkings immune from law and serfs kept illiterate.
