I'd no more take a "symbolic" shot at Syria than I would kick a hornets nest and turn my back on it.

Syria's packing a military full of junk, but they have a lot of it. Prudence would suggest a full scale air campaign followed by massive invasion, or else leave them alone.

Thanks for the feed.

She's from Colombia, but I believe she's part Lebanese descent.

According to Wikipedia, Shakira's father is an American of Lebanese-Macedonian descent. So she's probably 1/4 Lebanese.

A letter written by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to German Chancellor Angela Merkel asks her to help solve the Palestinian problem and deal with Zionism, a German government official said on Thursday. "There's nothing about the nuclear issue (in the letter)," the official told Reuters on condition of anonymity due to the extreme sensitivity of the issue for the German government. "It's all related to Germany and how we have to find a solution to the Palestinian problems and Zionism and so on. It's rather weird," the official, who has seen the letter, said.

Folks in light of the world response to ME actions this caught my eye on Drudge

"Third of male fish in rivers are changing sex"

I'd say a third of Male Humans acting like "Girlie Men" over Israel- Hezbollah conflict.

No offense intended

Interesting..... just makes more explicit how many "international journalists" are in bed with the terrorists - providing constant propaganda for them even when working for such "objective" (sic) organizations as Rooters, CNN, BBC, etc.

Sam Hill and everyone: this reminds me of some related info I was just reading on this blog about the "harmonic convergence" of the global leftist nutcases in Beirut a couple of years ago. [NOTE: Hezbollah is listed as part of the "Welcoming Committee" for these leftist activists] I don't know anything about this blogger but the info below on this convergence of leftist nutjobs in Beirut in Sept. 2004 is most intriguing....... [Sam Hill, this links Hezbollah to "Code Pink" and "United for Peace and Justice" and note connections with funding from Ter-AY-sa Heinz Kerry]:

http://bookwormroom.wordpress.com/2006/07/16/lets-start-thinking-about-bedfellows/

I was reminded again of all the Leftist organizations around the world that have crawled into bed with Hezbollah in the last several years. Here’s one story:

In September 2004, there was a huge gathering of anti-American, anti-Israeli organizations in Beirut to attend a conference entitled “Where Next For The Global Anti-War And Anti-Globalization Movements? An International Strategy Meeting.” The resulting manifesto, simultaneously turgid and strident, has as its primary goal attacking the U.S. war in Iraq. It’s secondary goal is to challenge Israel’s “occupation” of Palestinian lands. It’s a nasty document, with a decidedly anti-American tone. What makes it interesting today is the identity of one of the organizations playing host to all these anti-American Leftist organizations: Hezbollah (identified on the last page as one of the Local Welcoming Committees).

Aside from the little refresher about American and Israeli friends and enemies, the document has a couple more interesting participants. First, George Galloway was one of the attendees. You remember him, don’t you? He’s Saddam Hussein’s good buddy, Fidel Castro’s good buddy, a rabid anti-American, and someone who looks loathsome in a cat suit. (Little Green Footballs has been tracking Galloway’s exploits for some time. Just go to LGF and, in the search box, enter the world Galloway. You’ll enter a world of disgusting with all the posts that are returned on that subject.)

Second, one of the participants from the United States was a group called United for Peace and Justice. Ordinarily, this would just be one of the icky little anti-American groups that America produces, along the lines of Code Pink : Women for Peace (which also attended this little American and Israel hatefest). What distinguishes United for Peace and Justice is that Teresa Kerry funds it. So, in 2004, a couple of months before Americans decided whether to put John Kerry in the White House, his wife’s money was being used to fund one of the participants in a virulently anti-American meeting held in Beirut and hosted by Hezbollah. Once again, we have reason to be grateful that American voters put their money on George Bush.

Can't say what's in it, but it looks like a gravity bomb to me. It's two hand lengths in diameter, 12 to 16 inches, too big for an artillery tube, and those fins wouldn't survive being fired.

CS or leaflets, my best guess.

FAE?

Look at the tube running down the side. That doesn't look terribly aerodynamic, nor does it look like something that'd withstand being propelled through the air at high speed. I'm kind of wondering whether it's just a piece of road lighting or something like that.

From The Jerusalem Post, 4:30 PM Israel time

Nazareth sheikh attacks Zionism

Matthew Wagner, THE JERSUALEM POST (www.jpost.com)

One day after the tragic killing of two baby brothers in Nazareth, a leading Suffi Sheikh from the same town, who has been heavily involved in interfaith dialogue for two decades, equated the dispossession of Palestinians from their land in 1948 with the Holocaust.

Sheikh Abdel Salam Manasra, Secretary General of the High Suffi Council in the Holy Land, also equated Zionism with idolatry.

"Just as it says in the Bible that there were Jews who worshipped Ba'al [a type of ancient idolatry] so too there are Jews today who are Zionists," said Manasra.

"You are not a Jew as you should be if you [support] Zionism," he added. "Zionism is a bad thing."

Manasra rejected the idea that Israel was a Jewish state or homeland for the Jews.

"After the Europeans brought a Holocaust on the Jews, you Jews came here and brought a Holocaust on us," said Manasra. "None of the Europeans responsible for the Holocaust paid the price. Instead, I paid the price because I lost my land."

Rabbi Dr. Ron Kronish, Director of the Inter Religious Coordinating Council in Israel, who has participated in numerous interfaith dialogues with Manasra over the years, said the comments were very surprising.

"If this is indeed what he said about the Holocaust and Zionism, I think those are very poor, unhelpful comparison. I have known Sheikh Manasra as a man of peace and dialogue. I urge him to rethink his comments if indeed he said them.

"I am sensitive to the pain caused by the Naqba [Israeli victory against the Arabs], but it is not to be compared to the Holocaust."

When Manasra discovered that The Jerusalem Post reporter interviewing him lived in a settlement beyond the Green Line he said, "You live on conquered land. Come live in Haifa, Ashdod, or Tel Aviv.

"Besides, most of you are there because you love money," said Manasra. "A lot of you settlers are not even Jewish. They are Russians who oppose Judaism. I see them come to the Church in Nazareth."

Manasra was quick to condemn Israeli violence in Lebanon, but only after repeated questioning by The Post was Manasra willing to criticize the Hizbullah's bombing.

"But I do not want that statement against the Hizbullah to be placed prominently in your article," said Manasra to The Post.

He said that the relationship Sunni Arabs like himself had with the Shi'ite Hezbullah was "similar to the relation Jews had with the black Hebrews in Dimona."

Manasra said he has been involved in interfaith dialogue since 1987. He said that as a Suffi Sunni with more moderate views than other Sunni orders, he has suffered financially.

"The Saudis are opposed to the Suffis," said Manasra. "It's not easy to be a promoter of piece."

I was sent this article by a friend. Does anyone know if Big News Network.com is a reliable news source? - OB1

Iran, Syria agree to protect Hezbollah

Big News Network.com Wednesday 19th July, 2006 (UPI)

Iran and Syria have agreed to work together to keep Hezbollah from being destroyed in its fight against Israel, Syria sources have said.

The sources, quoted in the Qatar newspaper Al-Watan, said the two governments have agreed that Hezbollah must not be defeated politically or militarily and they have agreed to do all they can to prevent such an outcome, ynetnews.com reported Wednesday.

Israel's failure to defeat Hezbollah thus far is likely to cause the country to turn its sights on Syria, the sources said. They said such a move would cause Iran to get involved militarily, forcing Israel to face a war on multiple fronts.

Israel sent a message to Syria through Jordan, warning the country against arming and supporting Hezbollah, a diplomatic source in Tel Aviv told ynetnews.com. The warning said Israel was aware of weapons convoys traveling from Syria to Lebanon, and that Damascus is frequently the site of meetings between Hezbollah and Iranian officials. The source did not confirm whether the message included a warning of military action against the country.

Oh, dear, you don't think that Hizbollah would treachorously sell fattening chocolate to an unsuspecting population? Surely they must only make the healthiest, low-fat, sugar-free chocolate without harming the environment. After all, everything else they do is with kindness and with the highest regard for human life./s
