Al-Aqsa: We kidnapped a soldier in the West Bank
Ynet News ^ | 7/17/06

Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigades, Fatah's military wing, issued a statement claiming that their operatives had kidnapped a soldier from the Border Guard Police in the West Bank.
The statement also contained the name of the allegedly kidnapped soldier. (Ali Waked)
Iran cannot resist the opportunity to demonstrate their ultimate power.

That's a development I have been watching for, and hoping wouldn't happen, since early last week.
Why?
Syria can not, or could not prior to signing the mutual defense pact with Iran, hope to engage Israel successfully, they are overmatched in every military category.
The only way for Syria to have a chance of succeeding is if the IDF is so busy elsewhere that the odds against Syria are whittled down somehow.
From Syria's POV, engaging Israel on as many fronts as possible, by proxy, before an open attack, makes very good sense, IF the decision has been made to try their luck in the first place.
Predicting it and seeing it happen raises the chance that Iran, Syria, and quite possibly North Korea are all in this together, and planning on going big.
Nothing definite, but not a good sign.
Geez, no wonder they're so wacked. I had to google the flags as I couldn't believe you didn't post a joke. It's no joke....
I'm beginning to think kidnapping soldiers is the new form of religious suicide amongst the local terrorist groups.
I'll be honest, I am struggling to keep up with what nutcase group is what. Is this latest one from Syria?
The "arm holding machine gun" motif might be common in the Islamic militant movement.
bookmark for later.

Fatah is the organization who leads Palestinian "resistance"....
NUMP
oh ok, that's right. Hamas, Fatah, all the same nutcases to me.
Golan Heights Residents Ordered into Shelters
16:35 Jul 17, '06 / 21 Tammuz 5766
(IsraelNN.com) The IDF Homefront Command has instructed residents of the entire Golan Heights to enter shelters and safe rooms following rocket attacks earlier, possibly from the Syrian border a reality that would mark yet another escalation in warfare.
Senior northern military correspondent Menachem Horowitz explains that a rocket struck the eastern area of the Golan Heights earlier in the day, an area that was never under threat of rocket fire.
Just curious, does Hizballah have any known ties to AlQuiada? WOT.
good read on the situation. Anybody remember the big operation into the West Bank a few yrs back. It tied up a lot of Israeli ground units. I also think Israel is a lot more willing to make incursions into the West Bank than they are either in Gaza or Lebanon. I don't believe by any stretch that Israel could not handle Gaza, West Bank and Lebanon all at once. But if the West Bank does come into play and some how Syria and Iran joined the fray (and at this point I still think the IDF could handle it) others might start smelling blood in the water.
And now i'm hearing a different tone from Halutz saying Israel has no intention of attacking Syria AT THIS TIME. That's quite the qualifier
I think...that just like the US doesn't take the military option off the bargaining table..
I don't think that Israel should take any military option off the table..even Iran.
