LAPD has shut down the Los Angeles Central Library (the Riordan Library) and closed off 5th Street between Flower and Grand. Lots of LAPD and LA Fire on site. Several LAPD Bomb Squad cars and personnel there to.

Terrorists Target Seuss, Shakespeare :-p
There was a fire in the One Wilshire telco/carrier building yesterday, and we still really can't back in to access our equipment...
anything more on this?
Is this an eyewitness or radio account?

Eyewitness. I was nearby for lunch, heard lots of sirens during lunch, and now realize why. The place is totally locked down. At least 50 LAPD are lined up around the place, spaced 30-40 feet apart. No traffic.
Probably an on location shoot for an action flick.
There, or the thousand foot Library Tower across the street?
I work across the street from the Fifth Street entrance. Yes, lots of activity, law inforcement people, and the area blocked off. We had a fire drill in our office this morning.
Probably wind up being the "suspicious package" containing someone's lunch again.
Someone notice a Bible?
Update: Street closures extended. Fifth Street closed between Olive and Flower. Grand Street closed from Bunker Hill to Sixth Street. A few more police and bomb squad cars just arrived.
I was going to guess that some homeless guy forgot his brown paper bag.
Or one of the many local winos has dropped his bottle there...
I'd rather have a car chase.
These bomb scares rarely make it into local news ... unless a bomb goes off, of course.
Given what's going on, I say better safe than sorry.
