IREY URGES MURTHA TO SUPPORT ENGLISH BALLOTS (MONONGAHELA, July 13) Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey - anticipating todays House floor vote on extension of the Voting Rights Act - today released the following statement: Jack Murtha has an opportunity today to stand up for the ideal of America as the Melting Pot - he can, during consideration of the extension of the Voting Rights Act, vote in favor of the amendment offered by Rep. Steve King of Iowa, to remove the mandate for multilingual ballots, and reaffirm the primacy of English as the language that unites us. The voters of our congressional district will see today whether Jack Murtha believes it is right to force states and local governments to print ballots in languages other than English - an unfunded mandate that burdens local taxpayers, divides our country, and increases the opportunities for voter error and fraud. If ever there was a vote that could be called a no-brainer, this is it. Only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote; and our current immigration law mandates that immigrants need to be able to demonstrate an ability to read and understand English before they can become naturalized U.S. citizens. If only citizens can vote, and immigrants are already required to learn English before they can become citizens, why should we require the production of multilingual ballots? Jack Murtha can do the right thing today by voting for the King Amendment, and I urge him to do so. -- 30 -- Paid for by Diana Irey for Congress www.irey.com

Excerpts
"I want to deal with you guys awhile before I make any transactions at all, period," he told them, "After we've done some business, well, then I might change my mind."
Still, he wanted them to understand that he was the best man in Congress the sheik could acquire "I'm going to tell you this, if anybody can do it, I'm not BS-ing you fellows, I can get it done my way," he boasted "There's no question about it."
"All at once," he said, "some dumb (expletive deleted) would go start talking eight years from now about the whole thing and say (expletive deleted), this happened. Then in order to get immunity so he doesn't go to jail, he starts talking and fingering people. So the (SOB) falls apart."
"You give us the banks where you want the money deposited," offered one of the bagmen.
"All right," agreed Murtha "How much money are we talking about?"
"Well, you tell me"
"Well, let me find out what is a reasonable figure that will get their attention," said Murtha, "because there are a couple of banks that have really done me some favors in the past, and I'd like to put some money in."
Later Murtha asked again how much the sheik might be willing to deposit in a bank the congressman would designate. "Oh," said Amoroso, "I think a million dollars." The figure aroused new enthusiasm in Murtha.
Murtha emphasized again how influential he was "I'll be quite honest with you," he confided "I've got as much influence in that (expletive deleted) Congress with the leadership and the White House as anybody in Congress. I went to the ball game with the President. There were three of us me, Tip (Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill) and that was it. So I've got as much influence, and I know as much about the (expletive deleted) workings--you're not going to have any trouble."
Sharp Little Lady! This one is
sure to rile up some Americans!
Are they going to spend mega-bucks
printing the ballots in Chinese,
Russian, Polish, Japanese, et al?
or only English and Spanish...
ASSuming every voter is at least
capable of one of those two languages!?
I might have to make another contribution to her campaign.
UPDATE: The U.S. House just voted down the King Amendment by voice vote. Congressman King immediately moved to have the vote be recorded by roll call, but the Rule on the bill didn't allow for roll call votes -- so we'll never know how Murtha voted.
Ping!
BTTT
What a Moron!!
Thanks for the ping.

Welcome
Murtha's "Cut & Run" Comments on Iraq: "there's no progress at all" "it's worse than it was prewar" "we should immediatley redeploy" "War cannot be won on the ground" "I have said it's a civil war" "We cannot win this militarily. Our tactics themselves keep us from winning," |
Murtha's Comments on our Troops: "Would you join (the military) today?," he was asked in an interview. "No," replied Murtha "And I think you're saying the average guy out there who's considering recruitment is justified in saying 'I don't want to serve'," the interviewer continued. "Exactly right," said Murtha "we have become a catalyst for violence" in Iraq Marines "killed innocent civilians in cold blood." at Haditha "I will not excuse murder, and this is what happened" "This is worse than Abu Ghraib" "Hopefully, this is an isolated incident. But we're supposed to be selling ideas of America, ideals of America, and we're losing that war." "These kind of things have to be brought out immediately," he told "This Week," "because if the Marines got away with it, other Marines might think it's okay." "What they're saying to me is we're stretching the military too thin. The army is broken, and we couldn't deploy to a second front if we wanted to." "The troops don't know what to do. They don't have the direction they need in order to supervise the prisoners," |
You are just short of MiaT on your post.

Ms. Irey did a nice job calling him out on this.
Diana Irey to appear on Hannity & Colmes on Friday, July 14th, 9:00 EDT
I have not heard if she's scheduled for a specific segment of the one-hour show. Here's wishing her well.
Thanks, Coop.
Hmmmmm... Pence, Sensenbrenner both voted NO on that vote with Murtha.
