Building explosion at 32 East 62nd Street. Four story building collapses and is burning. Several people reported trapped in the rubble.
Update:

A police official with direct knowledge of the case told The Associated Press that the man recently sent out a rambling e-mail to his wife in which he contemplated suicide and said, "You will be transformed from gold digger to ash and rubble digger." The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
I discovered this entry when looking into the history of the location. Commander Robert McIlwaine also saw duty in Korea at the Battle of Inchon.
MERCHANT VESSEL SURVIVES FIVE AIR ATTACKS;
SHOOTS DOWN FOUR PLANES, PROBABLY TWO MORE
The story of how an American merchant vessel last January, ran the gauntlet of five air attacks in the Eastern Atlantic. and Mediterranean, during which the Navy gun crew commanded by Lieutenant (junior grade) Robert H. McIlwaine, U. S. N. R., of 34 East 62 Street, New York City, shot down four enemy planes and accounted for two more "probables", was told when the ship arrived recently at a United States port.
Although damaged by near misses and by a bomb which penetrated to its highly inflammable cargo but failed to explode, the vessel was able to keep position in the convoy and to discharge its cargo on schedule. Temporary repairs were made, and the vessel continued to do her job for many weeks before coming to the United States for permanent repairs.
Are you talking about the "Lipstick Building"?
...and Revlon's parent co. MacAndrews and Forbes (Ronald Perelman) was (is?) at 35 East 62nd Street
When it was first reported my college class was cancelled.
Truman Capote, please pick up the courtesy phone.
Building Explosion in Manhattan
the New York Times!?
no?
darn....
LOL! They probably brought back Tony, Michelle and Edgar for this one!
Dirty pool, more likely. Looks like that doc wanted it to be a suicide and insurance scam.
Glad to hear that there was good outcome. I'll bet he's been more attentive since that episode.
Thanks for the update. In the past I've cited the LAX shooting as an act of domestic terrorism (I never cared if such an act was "lone nut" activity or a trained killer).
I was unaware of the city's declaration and the FBI's later confirmation. I just know that FAR too often they deny terrorist involvement immediately and that in some instances, they are already aware OF terrorist connections when the denial is made.
I have to agree with you on that. The government (I've noticed on a global level) seems to immediately downplay terrorist activity. It's like they treat us like children.."don't upset the citizens". Where's Jack when we need him!
