I might get slammed for this, but I don't think people over 85 should be driving on the roads nowadays. Too many wacko drivers out there that treat even neighborhood streets as a NASCAR track. To top it off you have a never ending supply of women driving SUV's while yakking away on cell phones probably gossiping with other women on cell phones driving SUV's too. Put those two together with some senior citizen that can barely look over a steering wheel and probably has artificial knees or a hip replacement and it's a disaster waiting to happen.

BTW, yesterday I was on a main thoroughfare in my town and some older lady stopped traffic in the middle of the road to ask a construction worker who was setting up cones around a manhole for directions. Just a related note.

I would peg it at 80. The odds of a fatal seisure alone at that age is very high.

Don't agree on an age limit. An "Ability-to-Drive" test
is more appropiate. I have a neighbor who is 80. She took me to PU my car that was being serviced. I had no problem
with her driving.
You too will age. Remember what you posted here.

If nothing else, drivers should be re-tested on a regular basis once they reach the age of 60.

I don't think it's a coincidence that a disproportionate number of these "the accelerator pedal got stuck" accidents involve elderly drivers.

I'm not going to slam you. But I don't think there should be a cut off at a certain age ... some people are fully functional at 85. There should be mandatory testing after a certain age.

You're a tad late but welcome to the show; sometimes these things go on for days.

Most of the time we celebrate superannuation as an heroic feat except for those few times when the codger emulates the artful dodger and the we all scream for grandpa's head.

When will they ever learn to just move over and make room?

I have had to dodge at least three people in the last two months on the highway. ALL were 30-something females talking on their cell phones.

Sorry for the missing letters in my posts; for whatever reason my keyboard feels right, but on rereading I notice that I'm missing the rest of the word.

Anyway, the truth is that we can't simply deny a right or privilege based on age or assumed infirmity nor can we expect the world to be made free of risk, I guess we must stumble forward as best we can.

Probably a No Hable Ingles.

Also, I personally don't like age barriers for airline pilots or driving a car. Check the reactions of a person. That's what matters. A lot of people who use cell phones and put on makeup should not be driving, IMO.

I don't agree with an age limit for driving. If you want to test people, that's fine, but if they pass it, let them drive. Just because someone is older doesn't automatically make them bad drivers. I have run into really dangerous young drivers. In my view, it simply depends upon the individual.

" . . . I don't think people over 85 should be driving on the roads nowadays."

They don't. They drive on sidewalks, apparently.

Seriously, I agree with those who recommend testing after a certain age, and in some cases, an 'as need' basis.

You won't get a slam from me, but my grandmother, who turns 79 this November, is still the safest driver I know, including myself. But as for soccer moms in SUV's yakking away on cell phones, I see it everytime I drive to work. Those are the ones that need to have some remedial drivers ed...

Your right. That is horrible. There are many that can drive at that age fine. I guess you like living in communism. Move to North Korea and they will tell you how to live and what to do at every age. Get a grip! I still have 50 years until I am 85 (if I make it), but I don't want the government telling me if I can drive or not. I guess you would enjoy it.

You forgot the ones with the toy dog wedged between their lap and the steering wheel! How the hell they can even turn the wheel is beyond me. In the meantime the State Gestapo are running around looking for seat belt violations, what a joke.

Totally agree. No way should 85 and olders be driving!
