Army?
|
Navy?
|
Why did you choose that particular branch?
|
Where did you go to Basic Training or Boot Camp?
What is the name of your unit? (Division?)
What is their (your) mascot?
Tell us how much you loved your DI!
How long were you at Boot Camp/Basic Training, before you questioned the parentage of the senior Drill Sergeant? How long were you in service before you realized that the instructors were right in all that they taught you? |
Your first landing on an aircraft carrier Your first parachute jump The heaviest vehicle you got to drive The largest weapon you got to use Did you serve before email? Did you have a personal nickname? |
It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future... and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and God bless you.
A gentle reminder from Ms.B: Please, no politics in The Canteen. The Troops need a place to rest, relax and relate, and that place is The Canteen. Have fun and play nice! |

I was drafted into the US Army in June, 1967, where I spent "the summer of love" in basic training at Ft. Bliss, TX.
I was surprised NOT to be sent to 'Nam, but was assigned to an Engr detachment at the USMA in West point, then was sent to Neu Ulm, Germany, where I was assigned to HHC, 79th Engineer Battalion at Wiley Barracks. At the time, the 79th was constructing airfields, etc. not only in Germany, but had line companies in Spain and Libya.
I did nothing heroic, obviously, so can't go all "John Kerry" on 'youse people'.:^)

I guess I'd still be in the TN State Guard if we had a governor that appreciated it.

Don't know about the Navy, but when I was in ('68-'72) the Army Nike Hercs, all the lifers looked at least 65 years old, while still putting in their 20. The service seemed to age them quickly.
I went from basic at Ford Ord, CA (the Land that God Forgot) to AIT at Fort Bliss, Texas. Then on to a Missle Track Radar job near Travis AFB. Got an early out as E-5 in Dec.'71.

I'm in Kuwait. Been playing in the dirt, having a blast. (I left for a day, so that's why I'm late replying, sorry about that.)
To: Kathy in Alaska
It is windy from about an hour after sunup to well after sunset; hot, blowing sand; soaking wet sweaty in all the gear...I'm having a great time! LOL

Thanks! Good to see you too fatima, this is but a stop on the way. I'm still doing the ARRRRRRMY training, Sir! like in Stripes. LOL
But it is fun for us, because we're not used to blowing stuff up so "directly". Most of the Navy folks here with me have been doing it from a distance. Off shore launching missiles or aircraft, or such things.
To: tongue-tied
So you are there but still in training -or-you are not there and are in training.I am all mixed up:)
