It is our pleasure and honor to be here for our Troops, past, present and future...
and especially during this Week, the 4th of July we remember that we owe our freedom to you.

I wasn't in the service...my hubby was in the Air Force for 8 years. My son has been in the Air Force for 12 years....and counting.

I've never served (I'd be rejected for a heart murmer and high blood pressure) although other members of my family have...my brother was in the Army from 1992 to 1994 and is still in the National Guard Reserves, my stepfather was in the Air Force, another stepfather served in Vietnam in the Army (1969-'70) my grandfather flew a B-17 during WW2 and I've had cousins in the Army and Air Force. We're a diverse bunch.

I joined in March 1975, US Army Infantry! Ft. Jackson at the base of Tank Hill is where I took Basic Training. Then it was onto Ft. Polk LA, were the mosquitoes were as big as Huey's!
1st duty station was Ft Ord CA. I joined the Green Berets in 1985 at Ft. Bragg and the 5th SFGA. I retired from 5th group as a Sergeant Major in Jan of 1999.

Staff Sgt. Jason Elson, assistant paraloft chief, prepares to jump as part of his Tandem Offset Resupply Delivery System qualification. The TORDS program, also called bundle jumping, allows Marines to deliver gear inside a bundle or other container attached to them as they descend. For this training, the Marines built their own delivery system consisting of plastic barrels containing 350 pounds of sand. This weight simulated what the recon Marines might deliver during actual missions, such as food, water, weapons and ammunition. Along with the barrel, special harnesses are also designed to distribute the weight while falling with such a heavy load.
