Kim Jong Il is in a use it or lose it situation. In less than a month, the first full-up SM3 ABM-armed ship arrives off his coast and he won't be able to reliably threaten his neighbors.

This would be a great moment to overthrow Castro. :)

I recall a report that an Aegis successfully tested it's missiles in the region last week. Four failures means the Nk's are complete idiots or Aegis is having a great day.

Thank you William Jefferson Clinton for sending former President James Earl Carter to NK in 1998 IIRC, Carter went to NK without Clinton's knowledge or consent, and ended up making deals that Clinton refused to honor. The dirty work of which you speak was done by Madeline Albright.

It's mostly directed at the US as an international statement of how he deserves money (after all, it worked with Clinton).
The other possibility is to use this internally as a show of force to keep from being killed by his military.

Pray for the 150 million Japanese, too, and also the 40,000 non-military US citizens in Japan please. :-)

if CNN would just get this Wendy Sherman off the air bashing Bush
It helps to be a POLITICIAN in the Democrat Party if you want to 'lead negotiations with N. Korea' and become a CNN regular guest with an 'opinion'.
Wendy R. Sherman is a Principal of The Albright Group
From 1991 to 1993, Ms. Sherman specialized in strategic communications as a partner in the political and media consulting firm of' Doak, Shrum, Harris and Sherman. Prior to that, she directed EMILY's List, the largest financial and political resource for pro-choice Democratic women candidates. She is credited with the organization's strategic development that led to groundbreaking numbers of candidates in 1992.
Ms. Sherman directed Campaign '88 for the Democratic National Committee, where she oversaw field and political operations, communications, Congressional relations, constituency operations, issue development and coordination with all federal, state and local campaigns during the 1988 general election.
Prior to that, Ms. Sherman worked in a variety of positions in both government and non-profit organizations: chief' of' staff for three years for then Congresswoman Barbara Mikulski, campaign manager for Mikulski's first successful Senate campaign, Special Secretary for Children and Youth in Maryland (a cabinet-level position), Director of Maryland's Office of Child Welfare, supervising protective services, foster care, adoptions, and group homes.
Ms. Sherman attended Smith College from 1967 to 1969, and completed her B.A. cum laude from Boston University in 1971. In 1976, she earned a Master's degree in Social Work, Phi Kappa Phi from the University of' Maryland.
