The quarterfinal round concludes with a pair of enticing match-ups. The day's first match pits England against Portugal (10:30 a.m. ET, ABC) in Gelsenkirchen, while a rematch of the 1998 final between Brazil and France (3:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) will wrap the Round of 8.

That's the only good thing.
I hope I never see Sven's face again.
ABC announcers are a bunch of tools. They can only dream of playing at this level.
According to Babelfish, it means I hope the Brazilians win.
I speak Spanish, not portuguese (well, not very well).
Now that´s correct, but when Rooney was banned from the playground, the English defense was impressive. The English team started poor, but has improved until today. I have respect for the morale they showed with 10 men. I can live with that outcome, namely because of the arrogance of so many English fans towards my country (Germany). Some still fight the battles of WW2, and refuse to respect us. Therefore, it´s alright that Germany is among the best four teams, and England not (= "In your face!" to those who have no respect).
2006 WORLD CUP -- England lose to Portugal on penalties (Quarter finals)
2000 EURO CHAMPIONSHIPS -- England lose to Portugal on Penalties (Quarter Finals)
1998 WORLD CUP -- England lose to Argentina on penatlies (2nd Round)
1996 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS -- England lose to Germany on penalties (semi-finals)
1990 WORLD CUP -- England lose to Germany on penalties (semi-finals)
All this leads me to suggest that England are not very good at taking penalties.
I hate to say it. but england has not played very well and fun during the world cup. Blame the couch svennis. A swede of course.
Shut up!
Can we take that literally?
And it does make me smile to think of the angst and despair suddenly dropped on all the drunken skinhead hooligan portion of English fans. To the rest of the Brits, hey, you made it further than us! Congrats on making it to the Final 8.
BTW, for some reason those goalies' giant Micky Mouse gloves remind me of A-Rod:
I can't believe I'm actually rooting for the Froggies. But its 'Anyone But Brazil' for me.
I can barely understand a word or two, but am better able to read a bit in french and spanish.
PORTUGAL WINS................the goalkeeper was the best. Too bad that England didn't play too hard in the first place.
Can you believe A-Rod had the clutch walk-off home run the other day? He didn't know how to act--he probably thought he grounded into a double play.
"...a game that will be talked about for the ages..."
Huh?
I doubt that people who are not into soccer can imagine the heights and depths of emotion when you love the game.
Maybe in England, but as far as the World Cup, it wasn't even in the Top 50.
The end of regulation and OT were the best by both teams. Not many shots on goal before then and both teams seemed content to play a rather slow game, with a few exceptions.
I honestly didn't care about either team. I just can't work myself into a England supporter as most of their fans that live here in the US (ex-Pats) seem to be jerks who *always* root against the USA. Maybe it is just where I live.
Just think of it as rooting for Zidane to have one more game. Join in:
