I was listening to the John Batchelor radio show, out of New York...and he was talking to someone named Aaron, who was speaking to him from the border of the Gaza Strip..
Oh, we've given up on that outdated practice too. Now our troops simply ride around in convoys, being shot at, hunkering down, but not returning fire for fear of being brought up on charges by Iraqi Baathists and terrorists under Bush and Rumsfeld's new, completely neutered, Rules of Engagement. It's like a macabre, Kafkaesque, nightmarish shooting gallery.

However, he seems to have many sources inside Israel and the ME that none of the other news sources have. So far, he has batted 100% on what he says is going on there.
I found it interesting that Tony Snow said today that "Israel has the right to defend itself...." Hmmmmm...... interesting turn of words coming from the WH vs. from State.

OH...I think the White House make a nice "show" of wanting Israel to be more "diplomatic" with the Palestinians...but, I think behind the scenes..they are totally backing whatever Israel needs to do.

Fatah's worried that Hamas is getting all the press, and wants to reclaim its role as the 'baddest dude' in town. If you think of this whole thing in terms of West Side Story, it all drops into place.

An Israeli warplane fired a missile on Thursday at the pro-Hamas Islamic University in Gaza City, setting off a huge explosion, witnesses said.
An Israeli army spokesman said the planes had targeted an open area in Gaza City. Witnesses said the missile crashed into a soccer field. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The attack came as Israeli troops were poised to widen a incursion in the coastal Gaza Strip to recover a kidnapped soldier.
