Bill O'Reilly: Limbaugh targeted for destruction
WND ^ | 29 June 2006 | Joe Kovacs

Posted on 06/28/2006 6:04:09 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Fox News host Bill O'Reilly is coming to the defense of his radio competitor Rush Limbaugh, claiming authorities in Palm Beach County, Fla., are "out to get" the conservative talk-show host, and are maliciously targeting him for prosecution.

"He is an American," O'Reilly said of Limbaugh last night on "The O'Reilly Factor," "and I believe powerful people in his home county are trying unjustly to harm him."

On Monday, Limbaugh was held up for more than three hours at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities found a bottle of Viagra pills in his possession prescribed to someone else.

Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, issued a statement noting a doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes."

Though Limbaugh was not arrested, O'Reilly noted it was unusual authorities checked the shaving kits of people flying on private planes, and that the story was leaked to the press almost immediately.

"This is malicious, and this is unnecessary," said O'Reilly. "I only can conclude that in Palm Beach, where Mr. Limbaugh lives, they're out to get this guy."

O'Reilly said he had no vested interest in coming to Limbaugh's defense, having met the fellow broadcaster only "once for about 10 seconds," but he ripped local officials for trying to destroy the most listened to man in the history of radio.

"It was a malicious, cheap, cheap tactic by the Palm Beach authorities, and they ought to be ashamed of themselves," he said. "If I were Limbaugh, I'd move right on out of there. I'd get out of there. ... This is a political persecution. That's what this is."

As WND previously reported, the state attorney's office is reviewing the case after being supplied a report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

"We believe there may be a second-degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller told the Associated Press.

On Limbaugh's radio broadcast yesterday, he made light of the whole affair.

"I've been racking my brain. I'm trying to figure out how Bob Dole's luggage got on my airplane," Limbaugh clowned. "I told the doctor, I said, 'Look, I'm worried about the next election, not ... .'"

Former Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas is well-known for his use and endorsement of Viagra, a male sexual-enhancement drug.

In April, Limbaugh and the Florida state attorney, Democrat Barry Krischer, reached a settlement in a long-running prescription-drug investigation of the conservative radio giant, who termed the matter a political witch hunt as well as a "fishing expedition" by prosecutors.

Under the agreement, a single charge of doctor shopping was to be dismissed in 18 months if Limbaugh continues to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and a half years for back pain.

So, to make things easy, why did they not call the Doctor, hand the telephone to Rush and tell him to authoirize the Doctor to speak w3ith them, and then when Rush hands the telephone back, ask the Doctor, did you fgive these pills to Rush? When they say yes, then they know that there is no problem.

Do they want Rush to go to a thirty-day treatment program for using viagra? Sign me up!

Consciously, or unconsciously, O'Reilly is the one who wants to embarrassLimbaugh First, could not agree more with O'Reilly on this one. . .it is ONLY malicious and the worst of it. . .

. . .but like you; I did wonder if perhaps he 'protests too much' and what else might be going on here.

You may be right w/ your assessment; but I am more inclined to think that O'Reilly recognizes and 'remembers' his own past vulnerability to 'mistakes made' as well as being a personality targeted for the Left's hate; think he really is furious. . .and is 'protecting'/standing w/Rush on this. . .and unconciously defending himself as well; against the hate of the Left.

Everything he has said about the incident. . .the hate. . .vengence. . .embarassment and how these Lefties cannot get their fill when it comes to their perceived enemies. . .is true. . .

Think he will probably drop it now; if not. . .maybe Rush will give him a call ;^)- if he hasn't already. . .

I also send e-mails to Fox everytime this weasel is on. It's this "fair-and balanced" crap too, including Bob Beckel and Susan Estrich and a host of Dem shills they keep on trotting out, along with breaking-off from news conferences to report once again on Natalee Holloway.

Now wonder there's a ratings decline.

Like they'll prosecute him over a misdemeanor. Oh puhleeaze! There are worse things in life to be suspected of than Viagra on your person.

Rush should have had HIS PILLS in HIS PILL BOTTLE and not under a FAKE NAME. End of story. Rush screwed up

It was in his doctor's name. His doctor prescribed them. Since Rush is the patient obeying doctor's orders, if someone messed up, I would say it was the doctor or the pharmacy.

The proof that he has a problem with privacy is all over the newspapers and the television. They are proving why the doctor decided to put the pills in his own name. That or the doctor is working for the prosecutor. I can't see how it's Rush's fault when he is under that doctor's care -- and by court order as I understand it.

Powerful people in Florida are out to get Rush. He should move.

Gotta love Rush's sense of humor even when he's being persecuted.

Anyone who may have optimistically beleived that the Palm Beach voters really didn't understand the ballots in the 2000 election, this is proof positive that they are not "poor, old senile senior citizens."

These are the hard-core leftists from the Northeast who've retired and moved their operations to Florida, but have not missed a single step in their goal to push their Leftist agenda on America.

Yep. Time for Rush to move from the state of Florida. Paying property taxes to another state should cancel out the unwelcome mat that the good citizens in his present county have put out for him. The liberals who elect the public officials that stalk Rush need to be sealed off to themselves. With Rush gone they will turn on themselves for amusement. I have read and heard the explanation for his name not being on the prescription. Barbara Walters, no friend of conservatives, said the other day that she herself, like many other celebrities, does not have her name put on labels for privacy reasons. It is a legal option and Rush was not breaking the law. I agree with those who say Rush should become a spokesman for Viagra and donate the money to a worthy cause. Be smart, not stubborn, Rush. Back up the U Haul and leave that RAT nest to the losers. The losers, by the way, from the articles about retired folks in Florida, are probably 99% using Viagara themselves.

Yes, yesterday, at the beginning of the Today show (I'd let the dog out and hadn't had an opportunity to change the channel!), I believe it was, the opening screen had a picture of Rush, with the breathless exclamation, "CAUGHT WITH VIAGRA!

That was when I changed the channel (to Fox News)!

CA....

The authority's treatment of Rush is nothing short of disgraceful!

Just a mite discourteous to Aussie Dasher there, Babu, don't you think?

Not at all sir, you completely misread my post. The only reason the post was addressed to Aussie Dasher was because he posted the article.

If you reread the post, you will find that any ire I expressed was reserved for "BOR", which refers to Bill O'Reilly. If BOR is a FReeper, I don't know his handle to use :-) ...

I thought the article stated that the doctor had them put in his name. Perfectly legal IMHO. A doctor has samples of many drugs that he can give out to anyone he wishes, either to suppliment (for those on fixed incomes) an existing perscription, or to see how the patient responds to a particular medicine before writing a script, or because the length of medication can be met with a few samples rather than writing a script and having to go the druggist to get it filled.

And while viagra is not an OTC drug, it isn't a narcotic like the vicodine or whatever Rush was busted for. But I suppose I can see why a nationally known media person, who's private life has been put through the ringer would want to keep other aspects of his private life - PRIVATE, and I can see some unscrupulous pharmacy tech violating privacy rules to sell the fact that Rush is taking viagra to some tabloid like the NY Times.

As if the media ever tells the truth about anything. They've minimized themselves.

True, but this is the same crowd who lived by the slogan "Everyone's doing it" in the 1990's.
