When people go through treatment for drugs and they are on pain medicine. It doesnt mean that they STOP taking pain medicine. They may take a different or stronger dose and be monitered.
One doesnt stop pain meds just because on is addicted. One stops the addictive behaviors.

One stops the addictive behaviors. Maybe Viagra is a clue that he has traded one addiction for another as many addicts are wont to do.
