It's probably way too late. The Dutch, like France, Germany and other European countries, have allowed too many people from the Third World into their nations. (President Bush, call your office.)
No nation or region, anywhere at anytime in history has ever benefited from multiculturalism. Name one.
Anyone?

No nation or region, anywhere at anytime in history has ever benefited from multiculturalism. Name one. Love it or hate it. As far as I know the US is a conclomerate of immigrants of many different nations. Somehow the "mother" of multiculturalism and the outcome is not that bad.
The question is how to seperate the "good" and the "bad" immigrants. This is what the Dutch are doing now with this test.

I think you are correct. Any large country that has had great contributions from various immigrants always had a powerful central culture that was the culture of the country.
When that weakens to the point of negotiating with each and every new group, then watch out. What you will have then is a luke warm status quo to which few will feel dedicated.
I would say the Roman Empire, when it was expanding and the culture was Roman First, dammit!, and the US, up to this point, are examples of a powerful central culture benefiting mightily from newcomers.
But I would say the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Rome, once it had been washed over with too many disparate groups, represent the destructive side of that scale.

You said, "No nation or region, anywhere at anytime in history has ever benefited from multiculturalism. Name one. Anyone?"
Throughout history, many nations have permitted Jews to live among them, even in times when those Jews remained very culturally distinct from their hosts. I suspect that every nation that did so was blessed by having those Jews, whether they acknowledged it or not.
Since you challenged us to "Name one", I'll name England.
I'm not suggesting that any civlized country should admit militant Muslims. Just disagree with your words quoted above. Historically, many nations have accepted and tolerated the presence of others among them (such as the Amish in this country) who did not share the culture, customs, and morals of the majority, and it has not inevitably led to disaster.
