Buchanan - The stealth amnesty of Rep. Mike Pence
Townhall ^ | June 13, 2006 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 06/13/2006 6:06:00 AM PDT by rcocean

Pence calls his plan a "middle ground" proposal, a "no amnesty immigration reform" in which "securing our border is the first step."

This is fraudulent. At the heart of the Pence plan is amnesty. Illegal aliens here return to Mexico for one week with an assurance they can come back to their jobs. Down there, they visit "Ellis Island Centers" to register as "guest workers" and return with "work permits." The illegal are made legal and put on a path to citizenship.

The only difference between the Pence plan and the Kennedy-Bush amnesty is the one-week vacation employers would happily fund, as it means blanket amnesty for them as well as their illegal hires.

Only Nixon Could Go to China, and Only Pence Could Sell Amnesty to the House

"Thanks for standing up against Pence's absurdity."

His plan is the best out there....with the exception that illegals can eventually apply for and get US citizenship.

Too bad it's not exactly a "footnote".....in the bill, but a nasty gaping loophole.

I would not support this bill as currently written.

Still, I would support MP for President.

"with the exception that illegals can eventually apply for and get US citizenship."

No, Pence's plan does not put guest workers on a path to citizenship. Pence makes that abundantly clear. Pence's proposal does not deal with citizenship, it is a completely separate and different process.

Pence's plan allows guest workers to re-apply three times under his proposal for two year increments. At the end of this time they are REQUIRED to go home or to apply for citizenship. If they stay here without applying for citizenship they will be illegal and will be immediately apprehended and deported.

The guest workers' opportunity to apply for citizenship is no different than any other person who would like to apply for U.S. citizenship. This is completely seperate from the Pence bill and on the own accord of the individual guest worker. 95 percent if not more of green card applicants are turned down, so there is no guarantee any of these guest workers will be able to become citizens. And if they do, the fact that they were guest workers under Pence plan does not give them any advantage. They still have to go to the end of the line.

How does Pence's plan address the people who employ or have employed illegals? Are they forgiven? Also, how does his plan address past tax avoidance by illegals and those that hire them? Does Pence's plan address past identity theft in any way?

It seems to me that pursuing "punishment" for these issue will cost more than it brings in. There comes a point when financial practicality comes into play. Pence's plan seems to operate on a pretty practical and workable foundation.

The same could be said about pursuing punishment for prostitutiom, domestic identity theft, the drug war, shop lifting, etc. etc. If they are going to forgive illegal aliens for committing crimes that they are unwilling to forgive me for committing, then they will have a tough time selling the bill to Americans.

I agree except that under the current law these are not felonies, but misdemeanors. Therefore they are punished as misdemeanors. Paying a fine would take care of it. Like traffic court.

Pence's plan INCLUDES HR 4437.

LOL! Amnesty schemes like Pence's "Tijuana Shuffle" make a mockery of any bogus enforcement promises they also might contain.

Identity theft is a felony, is it not? Use of a fraudulent social security number?

All of the guest workers will procreate and also bring in their familites. Thye are also given preference to legal immigrants waiting in line. The caps still apply to them.

Ain't gonna happen...

So now Pence is now a "favorite pol" of the Bushbots. Not too long ago it was just the opposite.

I've heard some FReepers call Pence a RINO. Seriously.

They are required to go home today. No one makes them. Why will it be different for the Pence-Amnesty folks 6 years from now.

Sorry no dice. Kennedy, McCain and Pence can keep their amnesty schemes.

"The guest workers' opportunity to apply for citizenship is no different than any other person who would like to apply for U.S. citizenship"

There is a big difference.

There are several people here on FR who apparently think otherwise. I can think of one gent in particular who I will ping to state his case. He can explain it better than I.

Yes. Those should be prosecuted and, btw are already. I actually had a very lengthy conversation with someone on the front lines of this and have a much better perspective of what happens.

So with that in mind, how do you propose to go after a small business owner who may have unknowingly hired one of these people with a fraudulent ssn? You realize that it will put the little guy under if he made a single mistake, while leaving huge companies virtually scott free because they have the resources to either avoid it entirely by doing intense background checks, or pay fines without much pain?

I do not think it is right to hire illegals and companies who do so intentionally should be held accountable, but that is very difficult given our current laws. The bottom line is I do have some sympathy for the small businessman who would get caught up in the issue stunned that employee xyz had allowed a visa to expire, or came from an illegal heritage, or had fraudulent documentation.

In the end, I am discovering this to be a lot harder work for those on the inside than I ever imagined.

I've come to believe that RINO is simply a term for anyone who does not agree with ME on every single issue. ; )

"Could you please show me where pat buchanan's heroes and whom if he was King, IMO, grant instant amnesty and pardon, to mengale and eichmann, did such good things that benefitted people."

That is an absolutely inane statement . Just so you know, Buchanan had several relatives who fought the Nazis in WW2 , one of them being his brother . Do your research before slandering Mr. Buchanan .
