Olmert: I won't divide Jerusalem or give away Temple Mount
Haaretz ^ | June 13, 2006 | Aluf Benn

Speaking publicly for the first time about the future of Jerusalem, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Jewish community leaders in London on Monday that he had no intention of dividing the capital or giving away sovereignty of the Temple Mount.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair refrained earlier Monday from endorsing Olmert's plan for a unilateral withdrawal, calling instead for a "negotiated two-state solution," to the Middle East conflict, something which he said the world agreed upon.

Olmert said Monday after talks with Blair that Israel is "prepared to pull out from most" of the West Bank and create a "contiguous" Palestinian state.

At a press conference after the talks, Olmert told reporters that the "basic precondition for future negotiations was to be the end of terror in the Middle East," but said that he would "make every possible effort to engage in dialogue with the Palestinians."

The "first priority for Israel is negotiations," Olmert added, saying "the status quo is the enemy of everything that we are in favor of."

He said that Israel is "ready to go a long way in order to convince [the Palestinians] that it is preferable and worthwhile to meet... the road map."

"Our task in the international community is to try and give the best chance possible for a negotiated settlement to take place," Blair said.

He said that he told then newly inaugurated U.S. President George W. Bush in 2001 that, "you've got to get behind a two-state solution."

Turning to the issue of Iran and its nuclear program, the Olmert said that Israel "will not tolerate nuclear weapons in the hands of Iran."

Olmert: I won't divide Jerusalem or give away Temple Mount

I'd put money down on this bogus comment.

Israel, especially the Israeli left will give away the store for a couple of false promises from the ragheads.

Israel has become a joke.

From the Financial Times in the UK:
"Tony Blair, UK prime minister, on Monday urged Israelis and Palestinians to pursue a negotiated settlement of their conflict, but did not endorse a unilateral Israeli solution in the event of a stalemate."

So if the terrorists won't make a deal for peace, Mr. Blair wants Israel to allow the terrorists to gradually overrun it.

Many could benefit from a short, easy read of history on the situation.

I am also against Israel giving any ground to its enemies, BTW. But many western Europeans have yet another reason for disagreeing with Prime Minister Olmert.

If I were an Israeli, I'd grab my butt and head for the hills on this one. Ohlmert hasn't been PM very long but his track record already stinks. Like Clinton, whatever Ohlmert says he isn't going to do is exactly what he's going to go.

Forewarned is forearmed.

After his wife doesn't give him any and his daughter yells at him, he's change his mind.

from the ragheads

Look, I am tired of this. They do not wear rags on their heads. The garment is actually a sheet. It is a small sheet wrapped in a consistent manner and should be recognized as such.

From now on, I would appreciate it if you would refer to them appropriately as:

little sheet heads.
