Foul play suspected after cables found severed on Airbus A380 on Toulouse assembly line

Airbus has begun an investigation into a suspected security breach after three cables of a final assembly line Airbus A380 were found severed.

The damage was discovered during the day-to-night shift changeover last Thursday (8 June). Although police attended the scene, Airbus has not lodged an official complaint.

Airbus says: “Three cables were cut or severed in one section. It is being investigated and our surveillance is being checked out [for weak coverage]. This shows that we have very good checks and that things get picked up straight away.

“We don’t know the reason why it was done. At the moment it seems that it wasn’t an accident.”

Airbus is unable to identify which section of the A380 was affected and declines to give the exact identity of the aircraft, but adds that the damage “is not too great”.

The police were summoned and an internal investigation is underway but, despite suspicions of “vandalism”, Airbus has not filed charges.

“It is an internal investigation, not external. Airbus has not made an official complaint. It is just doing it internally at the moment. It is early days. We are looking at the surveillance [material] that we have.”

Although closed-circuit television cameras are fitted within the building, Airbus says it is not aware of any surveillance within the vicinity of the incident. He adds that the building is “fairly secure” as it is pass-protected and specific permissions are required to access the area.

Excuse me for overlooking maybe one plane type out of thousands ....... Time will tell whether a 777 ever goes down or not before they are all removed from service decades from now.

This is just stupid for a worker to do... besides every thing else... there cutting there own worker throats... you hurt the company the low man gets it first

I was living in Seattle in the early 1970's, when Boeing employment in the area went from 101,000 down to some 40,000. There were some rumors that wiring harnesses on the 747 -- which was in initial development at the time -- were getting cut. Apparently Boeing would call employees who were going to get laid off into a central office, and would not let them return to the production line or to their lockers. They would send someone else back out to collect your belongings.

Last time I flew on an AirBus, I spent the entire flight wondering if the tail would come off before the computer crashed...

Didn't you know that airbus crash was caused by terrorists? The gov't covered it up. I saw lots of people on FR say so, so it must be true.

The 777's maiden flight was 12 years ago yesterday. cool!

anyway, I think what Procyon was trying to say is that the 777 is well built, as is the trend of (at least American) planes as of late, what with all the advanced technology.

I really hope the composites path proves to be as reliable as we're banking on them being, in the long run of course.

The problem isn't with what was found, the overt damage, but rather with the sabotage that was NOT discovered.

Okay, that's not a commercial airplane. But I dont think this has had a crash either.
