NJ assemblywomen call for boycott of new Coulter book

TRENTON, N.J. - Commentator Ann Coulter's incendiary words about outspoken 9/11 widows have led two state lawmakers to calls for a boycott of her book in the widows' home state of New Jersey.

Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley, D-Hudson, and Linda Stender, D-Union, on Thursday called on New Jerseyans to stop buying the book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," and for retailers in the state to stop selling it.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books. By making these claims, she proved herself worse than those she is attempting to vilify - she is a leach trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others," the two assemblywomen said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Crown Forum, the publisher of Coulter's book, did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday.

In her new book, Coulter writes that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

The comments drew criticism Wednesday from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who said the book should be called "Heartless," and New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, who said he was stunned by the remarks.

Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show and stuck by her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."

Her criticism was aimed at four New Jersey women she dubbed "The Witches of East Brunswick," after the town where two of them live.

The women - Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg and Patty Casazza - have spent the years since the 2001 terror attacks supporting an independent commission to examine government failures before the attack. During the 2004 presidential race, they endorsed Democrat John Kerry.

"If you were married to her and got on her s**t list, life would be pure hell."

Ain't that the truth. You know she's slightly nuts but that makes her hot. Hot in the bangable sense rather than the marriageable sense.

Read the book. Look at the remarks in context. The aforesaid ladies are political hacks, different from Shee"ham" only in they are well-to-do suburbanites and she is a gone-to seed- flower child. They trade on their widowhood for money and fame, just as Murtha trades on his military service.

Hi All-

The so-called "Jersey Girls" have sown the wind and now they're reaping the whirlwind. Their leftist screeching has become unbearable.

Well, I'm joining the boycott. I've bought it once, and I'm never buying it again.

Absolutely true. That's what most people can't stand. IT'S THE TRUTH and it's not sugar coated. That's what I admire about Ann Coulter. And she doesn't mind taking the heat unlike the COWARDS in Congress. At least I know where she stands and it doesn't change with the wind.

"This (Ann Coulter's book) is as idiotic as Congress debating gay rights," said Kristen Breitweiser

Monica Gabrielle, told the Star Ledger that Coulter's comments "boggle the mind.

"I'm still pretty much speechless. We're debating whether to give any credence to Miss Coulter's comments," Gabrielle said.

Not just the politicians. The pundits are all so moderate in tone. Like Buckley.
The difference between her book and Buckley's book on Yale's relgion is mainly tone. We have forgotten how "intemperate" and "upstartish" Buckley seemed back around 1950.

I would LOVE for Kathy Griffin to 'go after' Ann Coulter. She would have her butt kicked to Mars and back.

Comedian Kathy Griffin comments on Coulter's appearance on the TODAY Show.

(rough transcript)

Kathy: I'd like to go after Ann Coulter, I saw that nut-bag on the show earlier. What's she doing wearing a cocktail dress at seven in the morning. She got home from the party last night. Doesn't she just make stuff up Al? Who fact checks? You can't just let Ann Coulter...

Lauer Offended By Ann Coulter; Delighted by Al Franken
Posted by Geoffrey Dickens on June 6, 2006 - 11:53.

Matt Lauer has two different sets of standards for politically provocative authors. If you are on the left he laughs with you, if you are on the right he slams you. On this morning’s Today show Ann Coulter’s statements drew outrage from Matt but last October when Al Franken suggested Karl Rove and Lewis Libby be executed for treason Matt and the Today show crew laughed. Lauer’s interview with Coulter got particularly testy when he read excerpts from Coulter’s new book and demanded she defend them. Below are the most explosive portion of this morning’s Coulter v. Lauer showdown

Liberals hate Coulter because she talks trash just like she does. But she means what she says. She is not really a great debater, and tends to get shrill, but they have absolutely given up debate. They just dogmatize . She
hates their dogmas and fires away at their sacred cows. They hate THAT.

I will gie Ann Coulter this, she says what many of us are thinking (if she would just get some voice lessons so I could listen to her).

Their mommies are big girls who have stepped into this country's political process and have chosen sides... The press gives them the pass.. Ann won't...

Welcome to the mud.....

LOL.

You're engaging in junior high school schoolyard logic here--"she started name-calling first, so I'll call her names." In other words, amateur thinking makes one think he or she can engage in the same tactics as their target and still look credible. I don't think that is necessarily the case; certainly not in this case.

I know if I were even teaching a child about how to respond or react to someone who was doing something considered inappropriate, I wouldn't tell her "Do the same thing they're doing!"

You apparently don't agree. Good luck persuading anyone, I know it hasn't worked with me.

I'm sure we agree on a host of other subjects, but not this one.

"sinkspur"'s entire line of attack against Ann Coulter has consisted of inane childish jibes.
I am yet to see anything substantive from this individual on the matter.
Maybe we should be sending him to the kiddies play room.
He might just feel a bit more at home there.

The very instantaneous sharpness that makes her so entertaining and effective is, I suspect, a quality that makes her distinctly off putting to potential suitors who start thinking what it might be to live with a woman with a tongue like that who turned it on them. She's probably a great gal to date but would be a horrible one to marry.

Now that, coming from someone that calls themselves "libstripper", has got to be about the most moronic post on this thread (and there have been plenty of those).
