You Can't Stay on the Fence About Immigration

YOU CAN'T STAY ON THE FENCE ABOUT IMMIGRATION

The bitter battle over the immigration bill has become a legislative minefield in this election year, though it's still unclear whether November will see any heavy political fallout as a result.

To put it mildly, this issue is a thorny wilderness, festering intra-party divisions and brewing voter backlashes. It could inflict additional wounds on George W. Bush's battle-scarred presidency, shrink the GOP's congressional Republican majority and, possibly, hurt some vulnerable Democrats.

Let's slice up some of these pitfalls.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

John McCain is a panderer and starting to remind me so much of someone else.

"The main reason why I’m here is to urge you to be heavily involved in this issue because what happens in the next weeks, perhaps months but very likely weeks, will determine not just the issue of immigration in America, but in my view, define what America is all about," McCain told nearly 350 county residents who ranged from attorneys to elected officials to entrepreneurs.

The event today at the Hyatt Regency Irvine was organized by the Hispanic 100, a group of county business leaders.

I'm doing this as an AMERICAN!

Ohio Sheriffs Use State Powers To Battle Illegals

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones can't control what Congress does about the hotly debated immigration-reform issue.

He can't force federal agents to do anything about the illegal immigrants he says are costing taxpayers millions of dollars in his county north of Cincinnati.

But Jones sat at his desk, beneath a portrait of John Wayne, and talked about what he can control.

"I took an oath to uphold all the laws of this state and of this country," he said. "I don't know if it's an activist role. It's an American role, and I'm doing this as an American."

Rector Routs White House On Senate Bill Numbers—But Should Go Further

What impact will the Senate Guestworker/ Amnesty bill have on U.S. population? A startling estimate by the Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector —103 million legal immigrants by 2026—precipitated a war among Washington wonks. Cato complained of "cheap tricks." CBO defended its (far lower) estimates. Even the White House deigned to comment—unfavorably of course—on Robert Rector’s analysis.

Nevertheless, Rector’s estimate did achieve one telling result: an amendment significantly reducing the number of legal immigrants who could enter under the bill's "Guest Worker" program. As a result of this change, Rector’s estimated number of the number of legalizations falls from 103 million to around 66 million over the next 20 years. But that lower figure is still more than three times the current legalization rate.

My view: in general, Rector’s figure is reasonable. And there are other reasons to expect the impact of the future immigration inflow to be even larger than he suggests.

About the truth too. Might as well be giving away candy for the way American citizenship is treated by some.

It is no wonder the mess we have, immigration and all. We must be stupid people because we put the same bozo's back in office every time. I mean really what is wrong with us?

Don't think this is just a democrat affliction either.

It is no wonder Reid and many politicians along with some in the press treat us like we are fools. We tolerate cheating, lying and fraud. IMO it has become prevalant in some form or another in all walks of life. This immigration issue has only served to show the king truly has no clothes. We have some hard battles here is we are to preserve anything of American that we are talking about. As McCain likes to say. This will "define what America is all about"! Indeed it will!

Sorry for the small rant...

WASHINGTON - Reversing course, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid’s office acknowledged Wednesday night he misstated the ethics rules governing his acceptance of free boxing tickets and has decided to avoid taking such gifts in the future.

That's why deporting w/o first securing the border won't work. Any border that allows scum like this to enter illegally 20 times is not a secure border.

Thanks for this posting!

O'Reilly said he'd call for a BOYCOTT on all things Mexican, like he did for all French products when France wimped out on us at the U. N.

I think all of us Conservatives should begin our own BOYCOTT now. I don't know all the U. S. Employers of illegals, but I'm willing to give up Tyson's chicken, and most everything except air and water to sock it to 'em!

Actually, I heard this morning on Fox that Neil Cavuto is going to be talking about the possibility of serious problems like this in the states this summer.

Maybe he'll have a guest from one of the Latino organizers groups who can shed some light on what their intentions are since their 'demands' are NOT going to be met.

Thanks for this posting!

Sheriff Joe Arpaio is doing the same thing in Maricopa County, Arizona.

My momma told me that Sheriffs have far more power than most folks ever realize.

I just wonder if the Texas Rangers also have similar powers, or if they've been told to back off????

Mornin'

After reading the link posted by MommaDearest, which I can't seem to locate right now, it makes perfect sense to me now regarding what Senator Jeff Sessions said..."I can assure you the Senate did not write this bill...."

Now it makes sense to me.

I have a horrible earache today, and have to go now to take some ibuprophen.

The Ohio Sheriff's basically are like the state troopers in other states. They have alot of authority in Ohio. I'm not sure what the purpose of Ohio state troopers are, except to catch speeders.

Hispanic Coalition Blasts Mexican President Vicente Fox
By Jim Kouri, CPP

A new coalition of American Hispanic Americans opposed to the US Senate's illegal alien amnesty is condemning Mexican President Vicente Fox's overt effort to meddle in the internal affairs of the United States and exert influence over US immigration policies. The Mexican president went on a tour of US Western states, during which he openly lobbied for passage of an illegal alien amnesty and guest worker program.
The group is disappointed in President George W. Bush and GOP senate members who are pushing a bill that rewards lawbreakers. They're also disappointed in the President for not telling Vicente Fox to butt out of US policymaking.

As he has often done during his more than five years in office, Fox is once again presuming to speak on behalf of American Hispanics and attempting to create the impression that there is widespread support for amnesty among U.S. citizens of Hispanic heritage. However, millions of American Hispanics are offended at the idea of any foreign leader meddling in the domestic affairs of the United States, said a You Don't Speak for Me! official.

"Who enters and is allowed to live in the United States is a sovereign matter for the American people and their elected representatives to decide, without any interference from the president of Mexico or anybody else," stated retired Colonel Albert Rodriguez, chairman of You Don't Speak for Me! (YDSFM).

"Given the fact that millions of Mexicans have fled the country since he has been in office, it is not even entirely clear that President Fox speaks on behalf of Mexican citizens living illegally in the U.S., much less millions of American citizens who happen to share his ethnic heritage."

A recent poll by the Zogby organization indicates that the majority of Hispanic voters in the US are opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens and want American immigration policies vigorously enforced. "American Hispanics are, first and foremost, Americans," said Rodriguez.

"American Hispanics, like all other citizens, are concerned about the staggering costs associated with mass immigration, the impact on jobs, schools and other vital national institutions, and the threat that our porous borders pose to the security of the nation. American Hispanics do not appreciate having their country used as Mexico's dumping ground, or themselves used as pawns by the leader of a foreign government."

YDSFM calls on President Fox to use his remaining six months in office to focus on curing the social and economic conditions in Mexico that drive many desperate citizens of that country to migrate illegally to the United States, rather than on lobbying the American people to grant amnesty to tens of millions of illegal aliens.

"President Fox has had the past five and half years to address the serious problems that face his country, and to achieve real improvements for the citizens of Mexico. Instead his policy has been to point his unemployed and impoverished people in the direction of the United States. His idea of helping Mexico's downtrodden is to provide them with maps to trek across the desert," said Col. Rodriguez.

"Now, he is brazenly demanding that the United State grant amnesty to the people he has encouraged to leave and is trying to enlist the support of American Hispanics," Rodriguez continued. "American Hispanics have a message for Mr. Fox: 'We are Americans and we will not be used for your political purposes.'"
