'Our Girl" Katherine Harris goes 'Off to the Races" (At Desoto Super Speedway)
Elect Harris Senate Campaign ^ | 2-25-06 | Harris Campaign

Posted on 05/26/2006 8:36:10 AM PDT by JulieRNR21

Off to the Races

Joining approximately 1200 fans, the Harris for U.S. Senate campaign ventured out to the Desoto Super Speedway recently and Katherine quickly stole the show.

Jack Smith, a track official said, "Often, when a political candidate or even one already in office shows up at a race track, they do their thing, make their short speech, shake a few hands, and leave quickly. Not so with Katherine!

After taking time to talk to seemingly everyone in the stands, she moved to the flag-stand, officially started the race with the green flag, and later discussed gas prices, illegal immigration problems, and the economy, closing with, 'We're not ever going to let those boys in Washington tell us what we're going to do, we're going to listen to Floridians and take care of you guys back home!'"

So enthralled in speaking to fans and watching the race were Katherine and her husband, Anders, that they stayed at the race until well past 10:00 p.m. Summing it up for everyone, race fan John Sarppraicone stated, "A lot of politicians don't care about the everyday folks, and you know what, the everyday folks are what make this country. [Katherine] has a very positive attitude toward people...she can do some good for our country."

Katherine dropped the green flag to start the race and watched the "Harris for U.S. Senate" car driven by Bill Davis (#15 car/appropriately named "Miss Liberty") circle the track.

"Our Girl..."

Also last week, Katherine traveled to Daytona. Not for another race, but to attend the Volusia County REC's Lincoln Day Dinner with special guest Lynn Swann, former NFL Hall of Famer for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and current Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate. Hundreds of local Republicans gathered along with some of the most influential politicians in Florida for what was an amazing night.

As Katherine settled into her seat, a plentiful vinaigrette salad with hot rolls and iced tea before her, her attention pointed to the stage as the band played old jazz tunes. Suddenly the band-leader stopped and looked out among the crowd, and called four people to the stage.

Whispered murmurs heighten as attendees speculated about what was happening, as this was not part of the official program. Suddenly, intonations of chords of the song, 'My Girl,' reverberate off the walls. The quartet called to the stage began singing the song, but inserting the word "Katherine" to the lyrics. "Katherine, my girl, talking about, my girl, Katherine, oooooo-oooooo-oh! Katherine! Katherine!" Surprise, laughter, and smiles quickly followed, as a shocked Katherine beamed, ear-to-ear. What a way to top off the night! "I was so surprised at the 'serenade' by the quartet. I think we'll have to bring them along with us on the campaign trail," Katherine said.

"This is just the beginning for what promises to be an eventful campaign where we travel the state, meet with voters, and have some fun on the trail," Katherine added. For updated campaign information, news articles, pictures and videos, please visit our website at http://www.ElectHarris.org

I wonder if voters in Nevada like Reid more than Harris?

Her ACU rating is 92. With KH, I get most of what I want. With Nelson, I get nada.

Well said! It's hypocritical and funny how the party hacks and Harris bashers will use this line when protecting RINO scumbags such as Chafee, Snowe, and Specter, but would rather see Nelson reelected than support for Harris.

I disagree with Harris on her mediocre illegal immigration record and on oil drilling too. But she can change with pressure from the base. With Nelson, all you're going to get is a dial tone.

"You know, for every defeatist loser post that shows up on these KH threads, I think I'm going to donate a quater to her campaign."

You're better off tossing money in the Gulf of Mexico for all the good it will do. Give it to Mr. Ginty instead.

The other primary candidates have an even less of a successful shot at defeating Nelson than Harris' hypothetical, media and RNC fabricated long shot chance of winning.

Apparently, some on this forum do.

Someone on another thread dubbed them the White Flag Conservatives. How appropriate.

I can't help but notice that the "you have to vote for him/her, she's a Republican crowd" never seems to show up on these Katherine Harris threads.

You could try answering my question.

To answer yours, my own agreement with KH's policy positions isn't at issue. I just recognize that most voters in FL prefer Nelson over Harris. That would be the same if I were a liberal, conservative, or anything else.

Do you think it is impossible for a conservative to recognize that another conservative ? If so, you need a dose of clarity.

"Another incredibly shallow observation from Tennessee. It's worth as much as your vote in the FL US Senate election."

Shooting the messengers won't win you this election. This angry and hateful attitude is precisely why Harris can barely get 1/3rd of the GOP primary voters, an appalling showing for a former statewide officeholder and only major candidate in the race. Contrast the SAME polls showing a LEAD for our likely GOP candidate for Governor, Charlie Crist. Screaming the polls are wrong doesn't earn you any credibility. I said it before, I said it recently, and I'll say it again, it's STILL the candidate, stupid.

"No, the much better question to ask is why there are certain people out there who do not want to see this woman run and have been sabotaging her campaign since she filed the papers."

No one is sabotaging her campaign, unless you consider "telling the truth" regarding the dynamics of her candidacy and her personal popularity to be "sabotage." There's a big difference between the boosterism and enthusiasm of supporters and mass-hysterical blindness, and we've long since seen that line being crossed. WAY too many smart FReepers backing KH to the hilt have left the reservation where this particular race is concerned. No individual candidate should ever be invested with that kind of emotional capital, or you're going to be in for a disappointment of a lifetime.

"The woman has a right to run for a Senate seat, does she not?"

As long as she qualifies under the Constitution, she has the right. But you don't seriously believe that even having a right instantly makes her the next Senator from Florida solely because of her party label. That's where her dieharders have lost touch with reality.

"She jumped in the race fair and square. If you don't like her - that's fine - but don't believe for a millisecond that any other candidate has a better shot at beating Nelson, without the grassroots who support Harris AND WILL NOT vote for someone groomed and picked by the RNC bosses. Yes, including Superman Jeb Bush."

Jeb's personal and job performance ratings are the photo negative of KH's. There's virtually no one in FL who doesn't have an opinion of her, and to most, it's negative. When she can barely muster 1/3rd of the primary voters and she has no REAL competition, you gotta say, "Houston, we HAVE a problem."

There is a small, but dedicated, contingent of coco puff conservatives who have placed a high premium on having a candidate on the ballot who will piss off liberals, at the expense of actually winning the race.

Liberalism in its extreme form is a mental disorder. Conservatism, in its extreme form, is a similar mental disorder.

"See Harris win... 30% of the vote in November, if she's lucky. I had her at 45% in February, 38% in April, but it will be the low 30s now.

Anyone who looks at the political climate and expects KH to win has a serious mental disorder.

Aside from Snowe (who has no Conservative opposition), I've unapologetically backed Laffey against Chafee, Toomey against Dead Senator Walking, and Ginty over Son of Kean in Jersey. None of us want Space Cadet Nelson reelected, but we also have to be smoking crack not to realize that KH was the one candidate he could beat without even having to campaign, and you can thank KH herself for not only failing to change that perception, but for having spent all of the Spring EXACERBATING it.

"The other primary candidates have an even less of a successful shot at defeating Nelson than Harris' hypothetical, media and RNC fabricated long shot chance of winning."

A ridiculous claim on its face. Even the non-campaigning Bense held Nelson to a narrower margin as an UNKNOWN candidate than KH. Right now, it's about electability, that's why McBride has a better shot -- simply because he ISN'T KH.

What about your Texas Congresscritters, sinkspur? What's their position on off-shore drilling?

You've obviously never seen the Texas coast. We've got rigs all over the place, from just off Galveston all the way down to Brownsville.

Naah, it's just Harrisitis (easily cured by a good hard slap 'cross the face or a dunk in some ice water). Well, if only it were cured that easily.
