Off to the Races
Joining approximately 1200 fans, the Harris for U.S. Senate campaign ventured out to the Desoto Super Speedway recently and Katherine quickly stole the show.
Jack Smith, a track official said, "Often, when a political candidate or even one already in office shows up at a race track, they do their thing, make their short speech, shake a few hands, and leave quickly. Not so with Katherine!
After taking time to talk to seemingly everyone in the stands, she moved to the flag-stand, officially started the race with the green flag, and later discussed gas prices, illegal immigration problems, and the economy, closing with, 'We're not ever going to let those boys in Washington tell us what we're going to do, we're going to listen to Floridians and take care of you guys back home!'"
So enthralled in speaking to fans and watching the race were Katherine and her husband, Anders, that they stayed at the race until well past 10:00 p.m. Summing it up for everyone, race fan John Sarppraicone stated, "A lot of politicians don't care about the everyday folks, and you know what, the everyday folks are what make this country. [Katherine] has a very positive attitude toward people...she can do some good for our country."
Katherine dropped the green flag to start the race and watched the "Harris for U.S. Senate" car driven by Bill Davis (#15 car/appropriately named "Miss Liberty") circle the track.
"Our Girl..."
Also last week, Katherine traveled to Daytona. Not for another race, but to attend the Volusia County REC's Lincoln Day Dinner with special guest Lynn Swann, former NFL Hall of Famer for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and current Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate. Hundreds of local Republicans gathered along with some of the most influential politicians in Florida for what was an amazing night.
As Katherine settled into her seat, a plentiful vinaigrette salad with hot rolls and iced tea before her, her attention pointed to the stage as the band played old jazz tunes. Suddenly the band-leader stopped and looked out among the crowd, and called four people to the stage.
Whispered murmurs heighten as attendees speculated about what was happening, as this was not part of the official program. Suddenly, intonations of chords of the song, 'My Girl,' reverberate off the walls. The quartet called to the stage began singing the song, but inserting the word "Katherine" to the lyrics. "Katherine, my girl, talking about, my girl, Katherine, oooooo-oooooo-oh! Katherine! Katherine!" Surprise, laughter, and smiles quickly followed, as a shocked Katherine beamed, ear-to-ear. What a way to top off the night! "I was so surprised at the 'serenade' by the quartet. I think we'll have to bring them along with us on the campaign trail," Katherine said.
"This is just the beginning for what promises to be an eventful campaign where we travel the state, meet with voters, and have some fun on the trail," Katherine added. For updated campaign information, news articles, pictures and videos, please visit our website at http://www.ElectHarris.org

There is no doubt that KH has a daunting task in front of her. Much like Santorum did several months ago when you also counted him out of the race. Just another reason folks here should ignore you and the rest of the pouting pundits of pessimism. You're far more enamored with your prognostication skills than I am.
What I don't understand is why you feel it necessary to come here and gleefully make this point and insult people while doing so. The phrase get a life comes to mind.
Now just imagine what we (?) could do with a Conservative GOP candidate
Funny, when I think of we on this forum, I don't include conservative posers who proudly wave the white flag. Defeatism has never been my style.
>>Anyone who looks at the political climate and expects KH to win has a serious mental disorder.<<
Well by that measure, it will probably be a bad year for the GOP all around ....
--We can thank President G. Dubya Bush for that !
>>Jiminy Christmas, how do I get lured back into these threads... <<
BECAUSE YOU WANT TO !
MinuteGal, best thing you can do, is to ignore them !
>>
58% Nelson -- 25% KH
Wake up and smell the napalm. She's dead, Jim.<<
Dead only if we put our faith in something as fluid as a public opinion poll .
Almost no one in here is denying that the Harris Campaign has chronically low numbers, nor are we controlled by this fluid fact . .
What Katherine's supporters on this thread and forum are denying, rightfully or wrongly, is that these low numbers cannot be turned around, that the tally up to date is a final conclusion !
I for one, think that she still can win, as slim as a possibility as that is . . .
I think it has to do mostly, if not entirely, with image and presentation. Her campaign has been a disaster and 2/3rds of the GOP primary voters know it. No one can claim she has a lousy voting record, it's just fine, it's just herself that is the problem. She was never able to improve on her '02 performance in her House race and remains a controversial figure even within the GOP (regardless of her yeoman work in the '00 Presidential contest). I don't have a "personal" grudge against her beyond the fact that this campaign of hers is going down as one of the worst disasters in modern political memory, and her most diehard supporters are some genuinely scary people. It's like a couple hundred Merrill Cooks' screaming "We're gonna win ! We're gonna win !" after they've LOST.
I might also add, too, which we won't be able to see necessarily until 2008, but keep an eye on what her GOP successor will score for her House seat (Vern Buchanan, I'm guessing). If it's above 55% and he scores higher than that upon reelection in '08, we'll know for certain that even in that Congressional district, it wasn't the message that was the problem, but the messenger. KH's predecessor, Dan Miller, scored well into the 60s for reelect numbers on several occasions.
BTTT
I nominate THAT comment for understatement of the year.
"Much like Santorum did several months ago when you also counted him out of the race."
Most rational political analysts considered him a likely defeat. I no longer have the same conclusion since he has virtually closed the gap with Junior Casey, opposite entirely to what KH has done, WIDENING the gap to unprecedented proportions unseen since the GOP became a competitive party in FL in the '60s.
"Just another reason folks here should ignore you and the rest of the pouting pundits of pessimism. You're far more enamored with your prognostication skills than I am."
Call me crazy, but I actually prefer my Conservative GOP candidates to win. We don't win majority control by running losers.
"What I don't understand is why you feel it necessary to come here and gleefully make this point and insult people while doing so. The phrase get a life comes to mind."
Oh, I'm sorry, I've just read through hundreds of insults of your colleagues in the past months to file more than a few lawsuits for character defamation, ranging from adulterer (ironic, given that I'm not married), child pornographer, and a few depraved Barney Frank come-on proposition fantasies (pun intended, yet unintended). I'm far from gleeful. I WEEP for you people. All that hate from all of you, all for doing nothing more than pointing out her candidacy was failing and perhaps we should get another Republican to run. I've seen people get less worked up over shooting wars than some of the KH nutjobs, and yes, sir, they most certainly are. As they say, a candidate is often judged by their supporters. It's why she'll be lucky to get out of the 30s come November.
"Funny, when I think of we on this forum, I don't include conservative posers who proudly wave the white flag. Defeatism has never been my style."
Junior, I made my Conservative bones a long time ago, and I don't have to explain or apologize to you or anyone else. My record and posts on FR stand for themselves. You have a nice day.
Red herring. Next.
"You sound like you don't like Women."
Sexist, slanderous and ignorant. Next.
Looks like there's no "next."
Pot, kettle, black. Have a nice day.

Then why do you come back here at all ?
Maybe this kind of attrition is fun for you ?
You have told me of the vitriol you have endured --
if it was on this forum, even as a private message, then make a report to the Admin Modie . .
Also, maybe if you and other naysayers had spent more time finding an alternative candidate to Harris and less time in here, we would not be having this hostility !
Are you referring to the now-defunct Florida Federation of Republican Women? The one that had its charter pulled, and was dissolved by its national organization a couple of days ago?
Oh yeah...that's a pretty exciting endorsement. LOL!
Please read my post #90
Excerpt:
Congresswoman Katherine Harris will be in the Memorial Day parade and speaking at the ceremony following the parade. On this Memorial Day it is both fitting and proper to thank her for her work in getting us a new National Cemetery in Sarasota County.
It was only because of her personal involvement and dedication to veterans that we got Sarasota added to the list of cemeteries already in the Senate and House Veterans Affairs Committees
BTW there are over 400,000 veterans in a 75 mile radius of Sarasota & Venice FL where Katherine will be thanked at the Memorial Day Parade on Monday.
Your childish name calling and references to mental illness are inappropriate in this forum.
The Federated Republican Women of FL are getting a new charter & the leadership will be stronger. Same statewide membership, with a different name.
Don't underestimate their legwork in elections. They have a lot of muscle; they knock on doors, stuff envelopes and TALK to everyone they know about GOP candidates!
I know because I'm a member!
You know, saying that KH has no chance and is a joke of a candidate really brings out the worst in the Coco Puff KH Posse.
It's true.
