We're all Jesus' children: 'Da Vinci Code' got its genealogy wrong.

DOES JESUS have a secret line of descendants who are living today? It's an oddly appealing idea. We tend to think of ancestry in terms of bloodlines, in which some individuals are descended from famous ancestors and others are not. And the idea echoes deeper religious themes of individuals and groups favored by God.
But this is one idea in "The Da Vinci Code," which opens today in theaters worldwide, that just won't wash. Jesus couldn't have just a few descendants living today. If anyone alive today is descended from Jesus, then so are most of the people on the planet.
This absurd-sounding statement is an inevitable consequence of the workings of ancestry. People may have just a few descendants in the two or three generations after they lived, but after that the number of descendants explodes. For a population to remain the same size, every adult has to have an average of two children who grow to adulthood and have children. So the number of descendants for the average person grows exponentially two children, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and so on. In just 10 generations roughly 250 years an average person can have more than 1,000 descendants.
SNIP
In real genealogies, a person's descendants either peter out within a few generations or begin to grow exponentially. That's why people who came to America on the Mayflower now have thousands of descendants. People who lived just a few centuries earlier have many millions of descendants.

It's a crappy book and I'm not wasting $6.00 and 2 hours of my life on the movie, but with all due respect, those looking for an "excuse" to lose faith will find it in Spongebob Squarepants if not the Davinci Code.
Frankly, that's not your concern, IMO. Your job is to carry out the great commission, not to be the heresy police.

DOES JESUS have a secret line of descendants who are living today?
If so, one would think that they SURELY would have been mentioned SOMEWHERE in the BOOK; doncha think?
And, if MM did happen to be His wife, do you think she may have wanted a HOUSE???
NIV Matthew 8:20 & Luke 9:58
Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
Then there is THIS passage:
NIV John 19:25-30
25. Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son,"
27. and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. (A mlae - NOT MM!)
28. Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."
29. A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips.
30. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. whispered to Mary Magdalene: "Hold up supper for me, I'll be home later."

I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know about the "revelation" that made the Cannes audience laugh. I have read the book, however, and all I can say is don't bother. I don't understand all the hoopla because it really is not that well written. It is one (small) step above pulp fiction.
That's the one thing I just don't get about this whole phenomenon...The book really isn't very good.

I am actually Jesus' brother (the bible tells me so). Indeed it does: if you are a believer.
Hebrews 2:11
Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.

Not in the DNA sense. Here's why: Jesus was conceived prior to being implanted into Mary's womb, thus his DNA was not Mary or Joseph derived. All the children with DNA from Mary and Joseph (remember that feminine looking one in da Vinci's Last Supper; the brother of Jesus in the sense that they both have the same Mother who gave them life support in her womb) are brothers and sisters but not in the DNA sense. By the same token, I'm a brother of Jesus by the coming of the Holy Spirit but not by DNA.
A perhaps more intriguing notion is 'how much of Jesus did Mary retain in her body following His birth?' It is a known fact that a few cells of each child gestated in a woman's body are retained in her body for the rest of her life. [And folks don't want to acknowledge some holiness for Mary!]

I have often wondered about the lineage, if any, of the cousin of Jesus, John the Baptist. Losing your head has a diminishing effort on your output!

The Nephilim are the offspring of intercourse between fallen angels and women. They are angelic/human hybrids judged in Genesis 6, confined in Tartarus, and depicted on stone tablets in Egypt and elsewhere. They are mentioned in the Scriptures in Judge and extra-Biblical texts like the Book of Enoch.
Well... not exactly...
NIV Genesis 1:26-27
26. Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
NIV Genesis 5:1-5
Genesis 5
1. This is the written account of Adam's line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.
2. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man. "
3. When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.
4. After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters.
5. Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.
NIV Genesis 6:1-8
1. When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,
2. the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.
3. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
4. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
5. The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.
6. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
7. So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them."
8. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
This verse...
Genesis 6:4. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
...says NOTHING about the N being the OFFSPRING of the SoG and the DoM: they were ALREADY there!
SoG are the offspring from the early Adam/Eve lineage and the DoM are the offspring from the LATER Adam/Eve lineage, nothing more.
NIV Numbers 13:33
We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."
EVERYTHING got wiped by the flood: there was NO WAY for these supposed 'angelic' offspring to have survived to THIS point in time.

Text: Gen. 6:4; Num. 13:33, R.V.), giants, the Hebrew word left untranslated by the Revisers, the name of one of the Canaanitish tribes. The Revisers have, however, translated the Hebrew gibborim, in Gen. 6:4, "mighty men."
NIV Jude 1:6
And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.
Nothing HERE about angels MATING with humans, either.

Interesting question. In Daniel we read of a hnad, just a hand, appearing to write on a wall, bringing a message to King Belshazar. If a hand showed, where stood the body to which the hand was connected? And would that body have DNA and thus DNA in each cell of the hand? Was the body Jesus and His hand therefore the 'hand of God'?

[And folks don't want to acknowledge some holiness for Mary!] She got 'holy' the same way the rest of us do:
By believing!
(And she's awaiting Christ's return the same way other dead believers are.)
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
13. Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.
14. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
15. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18. Therefore encourage each other with these words.

Maybe we should all go out and burn American flags, it'll make our patriotism stronger! Have you noticed how stronger your patriotism is after you've seen Old Glory burnt in protest by a bunch of #^*&#&'s on the news? After 9/11, American Flags sold out nationwide!
