NEW YORK (CNN) -- President Bush says that the installation of the new Iraqi government was a "watershed event," but at the same time warns Americans of the challenges and loss as we continue to prosecute the war against Iraqi insurgents. Sen. Harry Reid declares that legislation that would render English the national language is racist.
Thirty-seven Democrats vote for full amnesty for all illegal aliens in this country, even though nobody really knows whether the number is 11 million, 12 million or 20 million. The Senate Republican leadership demands that a "comprehensive immigration reform" plan must be passed before this Memorial Day weekend. And the president signs into law a tax cut that raises taxes on the educational funds of teenagers saving for college.
Never before in our country's history have both the president and Congress been so out of touch with most Americans. Never before have so few of our elected officials and corporate leaders been less willing to commit to the national interest. And never before has our nation's largest constituent group -- some 200 million middle-class Americans -- been without representation in our nation's capital.

I get what your saying.
I don't know if some of the others are just obstinate, or are engaging in wishful thinking.
If "middle class" has any meaning, than I would expect a definition - preferably no more than one or two sentences and containing hard figures. If it takes more than that, than it has no meaning, other than nostalgia. "being in the middle of the two extremes" hardly constitutes a definition either.
For that matter, I'd like to see "rich" and "poor" defined in the same manner, in terms that do something other than identify the far extremeties of the continuum.
IMHO, classes are like pornography. You supposedly know it when you see it, but nobody can come up with a definition that everyone can agree with for anything other than the extremes.
"IMHO, classes are like pornography. You supposedly know it when you see it, but nobody can come up with a definition that everyone can agree with for anything other than the extremes."
So you are saying that there ARE classes?....or there is no such thing as porn.
Just because it might be hard to define does not mean it doesn't exist.
It seems to me he is accurate on this.
I don't know about 'never before', but the Senate and the President are demonstrating that they are out-of-touch every day!
Somebody elected those Senators. If we are to believe Lou, it wasn't anyone in the 200 million-strong middle class who cast votes for any of them.
If the entire 200 million-strong middle class (or 3 to 1 of all Americans) actually felt strongly enough about the issue to vote Senators out, then Senators up for re-election this year (Such as Mike DeWanker) would have adopted a position alongside Sessions.
Either these Senators are so stupid that they don't realize they are risking losing their cushy jobs and having to go out and work for a living, or Lou is full of it.
Sorry, Lou.
I don't know either, but to many of our representatives, anyone with a job is 'rich'!
Americans who are getting feed a steady diet of Dobbs should feel out of touch.
"We don't have classes in our society."
Since when?
Even in liberal universities, class is explained in Pol, Sci. 101 as a paramid.
Take a pyramid shape, and divide it into thirds. The small paramid at the top is the upper class, the middle and larger portion is the middle class, and the lower portion is the lower class and the largest portion. It's roughly about incomes, and used to explain how the few at the top will never be numerous enough to pay all the bills. (liberals will even admit it.)
For those who think taxing the rich will pay the bills, it's been estimated that if one took the entire wealth of the rich and divided it between us, we'd each get about fifty dollars) The lower portion pays taxes too, but even though it is the largest portion it is so large and needy of a larger portion of social services as to hardly make a dent in supporting government, hense, the middle portion is tapped over and over, since only that portion of the paramid is large enough and wealthy enough to sustain government.
If the division of the paramid shifts very much, then things get out of kilter which is what we're taking about here. The lower third of the paramid is getting larger and the middle is growing smaller. There's not going to be enough of us to pay the bills of the lower, and even the rich can't bail us out.
Dobbs is talking about who really has to pay the bills!!! Look at Mexico--No middle class---coming soon to us---in spades.
Dobbs has been on the right side of the illegals issue.
Dobbs makes a sensational assertion as a lead in to his article, which obscures ration debate ont he subject.
It's ridiculous to claim in either tone or language that the POTUS is "telling the American Worker ot go to hell"
If the rate of illegal immigration continues unabated and the number of legal immigrants is increased, it will be the US that becomes unstablized. The 11 to 20 million illegal aliens repersent the failure to enforce our laws. We cannot absorb the numbers of Mexicans and others who want to come here. I am more worried about the political situation in America than I am about what may happen in Mexico.
When 12 million people who are supporting 24 million Mexicans lose their jobs and are forced home what do you suppose they will do?
The 12 to 20 million illegals (about 60% of whom are Mexican) are not going home, forced or otherwise. The first objective should be to shut off the supply. I don't see the urgency in dealing with the illegals already here. Neither party is calling for mass deportation.
That would mean 36 million our of 107 million mexicans would be starving. The most likely thing they would do is over throw the government of Mexico. And the new Mexican government will have just one choice to survive as a goverment.
That is pure hyperbole based on nothing.
Our enemy list would include the militant Muslims, the resurgent Russians, as well as Castro and Chavez. Just how much mischief do you think they could do with that border.
They are already trying to cross our virtually undefended southern border. FBI's Mueller: Hezbollah Busted in Mexican Smuggling Operation
To prevent them from sending thousands of insurgents accross our border we would have to bring the troops home from the middle east. I would have to the worlds longest battle line with orders to shoot on radar pickup. With us out of the middle east what do the Militant Muslims do? They would use just take over the majority of the worlds oil supply. They would tell us if we want oil we will have to pay at least 700 dollars a barrel. Or perhaps just refuse to sell us oil at any price.
Tin foil hat time.
So do you propose that we roll over and surrender? The Senate bill will allow milions of additional aliens, mainly Mexican, into our country which will change the country into something not recognizable to our core population.
If we're going to lose our own country, we might as well go down fighting.
this problem with the illegals have been going on for years, how come he was never this passionate when slick willy was in office; this is nothing but bush bashing, just like "pseudo outrage" over kyoto, slick and gore both talk a good game now but they never pushed for passage when they were in charge and held the cards.
The other possibility is most Americans have gotten accustomed to holding their nose and voting for the least undesirable option. Additionally, there are the millions of voters that have given up and don't bother to vote because they don't want to do vote for the best of the worst. If you really think our elected officials are in touch with most Americans on some of these issues simply because they were elected, then I think you are mistaken.
You sound like Clinton. They are not meaningless terms, but likes many others in common use they have been defined in several overlapping ways. You may object to them for whatever reason, perhaps in a wish to have a classless society. Usually their meaning in quite clear when viewed in the context used.
Never watch the guy. Read the article and think he makes some good points. Do you have anything of substance to add?

Hey, Bush bashers - vote in the dems direct or by default and learn how to speak Spanish
Please. Don't get me started on that. I try to avoid criticizing him directly in my posts here, but I'm not happy about his position on that.
We can build that expensive fence from the gulf of Mexico to the west coast for under 10 billion.
