Monday, May 22, 2006 12:44 a.m. EDT Mel Gibson Slams 'Da Vinci Code'
Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.
"The Passion of the Christ" star has been outraged about the thriller's controversial plot concerning Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. [Editor's Note: Get NewsMax's special report "The Da Vinci Con" FREE with Ann Coulter's book, "Godless" CLICK HERE NOW!]
Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.
"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."
The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film
You are obviously a well read man but your points are not well thought out. This evil book/movie isn't all a matter of intellect, it's a blasphemy against the God of 2 billion people in this world. It is not "fiction" when the life and times of Jesus Christ, the sinless man-God, are recounted in factual, historical context, but then revised to have Him living in sin. He was not Mark Twain you dufus, and this book is also a slam on the Catholic Church, which is the real agenda behind this trash.
I know about gnosticism and the other ridiculous legends about Jesus Christ and Mary Magdelene, so what? Until now these foolish legends have been just that, LEGENDS. But now the author attempts to resurrect the legend and assert it as fact by giving it a very loud and very effective global voice. Only the naive, the ignorant, and the faithless could honestly believe this story was written as "fictional entertainment", as the cowardly author has claimed. If slandering the 2nd Person of the Blessed Trinity, GOD to two billion people, is 'entertainment' to you, then it is YOU who should 'get over it'.
This book was not created expressly for knowledgable people or faithful Christians who could shrug it off as the garbage that it is, because these people, by-and-large, would not generally buy the book or see the blasphemous, sick movie. It was created largely as food for the ignorant and the gullible, and fuel for the Catholic haters. If you follow the story left in the wake of the book and movie, you will learn that many people actually believe what they are reading and seeing.
So you mention Mark Twain and others and you prove nothing. There is no book of 'fiction' that is written about the historical lives and times of actual people, using their actual names and factual events of a great portion of their lives and times, this is called HISTORY, or non-fiction. And when you pervert that history with falsifications and damnable lies it is called revisionist history, which is exactly what the author and movie producers want to show it as. It's an attack against the Christian faith and God Himself, (and it will be interesting to see how God will avenge His Holy Name). Even while you mention Samuel Clemens, there are millions of dumbed-down Americans all around you who have never heard of him, and whose intellect will never get beyond M.T.V. and American Idol........these people are the dimwits who are seeing the movie and believing it, exactly as the author and producers had hoped.
That's a very curious argument, sir, for any Christian to make. Whatever. So any kind of evil is OK in your mind because "honest and reasonable" persons such as yourself will not veer from the correct path? I thought we were charged with saving souls, not setting up an obstacle course to weed out the weak.
Don't confuse His truth, and the Church.
They're not one and the same.
Beauseant!
My points are extremely well thought out.
I have a question, before we go on discussing this book.
Have you read it?
Not only arer there books like that, there are Broadway musicals.
Hey, you quit that! Logic doesn't apply to theology....
I should have been clearer. You and your family can decide anything you like. But you can't enforce those decisions on others.
The only way you know HIS truth is through the Church. The Church is not the clergy but the testimony of the saints through the ages.
Good points.
God can sure handle man's disrespect, lies, blaspheming behavior. He has handled it all though earth's being.
But, don't expect me to join in with their behavior as I understand God's view of such. And, if you follow Christ, you will never accept defamation of His life as entertaiment, enjoyable education.
So, let the non-believers try and win as many to their views as possible. Afterall, they do not wish others to believe when they don't.
But, some of us understand what is going on and we want no part of it - especially as entertainment(?).
Very good post.

Amazing isn't it?
But, I am used to it. All my life at work you kept quiet about religion so as not to offend or be offended by statements of others. Same with politics.
So nice to be retired and say what I want even if only on FR.
What right do you have to judge those people? What about the command to go into the world to carry the message that all may find eternal life?
Of course, one that does not believe, would surely wish others to disdain religion too.
Satan is at work in this world and seeks to tempt and lure many to his side. But, that is temporary as God will win in the end.
And, you know? If there is a meanness in the heart of those wanting to "stick" it to Jesus and those crazy Christians - that "meanness" is Satan living in that person.
As we are told - you will know them by their fruits. And when the "fruits" are disdain, blasphemy it is apparent who they are serving. Entertainment or not.
I have made my point. I am comfortable in my faith, at least comfortable enough not to be swayed by a movie. Attacking me solves or changes nothing. I have been unfairly called a "fake catholic" because I refuse to be drawn into a worthless argument. You attack me for "judging" others. I was judging no one. I was merely pointing out that ones buying into the hype, are the ones that rarely see the inside of a church. I hope those that detract find Christ. Im sorry Im not offended enough for you, but my faith is unshakble. I dont need a movie to question it. My wife converted to Catholicism just this year and we raise our kids as best we can in the canons of the Church. We both agree that protesting outside a movie theatre, while admirable, means nothing to us. Terrorism, abortion, and war are enough to worry about without running around wringing our hands over a movie..
Oh, I don't in the least worry about it shaking my faith.
But, if I resent the depiction of the life of Jesus as presented as a lie by the Bible, if I am offended by the treatment of Jesus, I reserve the right to speak up about it.
I also reserve the right to know that the ignorant in our society will latch on to any doubt about religion thrown at them and many will be given a new reason not to believe in the Church and any teaching of Jesus. So, this is just a tool that is going to be used against them and their acceptance of Jesus, and therefore their eternal life.
Just because you don't consider it of worth as an issue, does not mean I have to feel the same way.
It is about time that I stood up for Jesus when His life is attacked as I have not been known for contributing much help. But, this is offensive as is any other effort by entertainers to mock His gift to man (ex. Madonna and the cross in her newest episode of shock).
Why, because Christians are supposed to welcome the mocking of their Savior? Christians are to keep quiet and join in with the defamation?
That wins as the most ridiculous statement here.
