Mel Gibson Slams Da Vinci Code

Monday, May 22, 2006 12:44 a.m. EDT Mel Gibson Slams 'Da Vinci Code'

Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.

"The Passion of the Christ" star has been outraged about the thriller's controversial plot concerning Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. [Editor's Note: Get NewsMax's special report "The Da Vinci Con" FREE with Ann Coulter's book, "Godless" – CLICK HERE NOW!]

Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.

"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."

The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film

The descendants of Robert the Bruce are very upset at how "Good King Robert" was portrayed in Braveheart!

Prove, from the bible alone, that Christ was NOT married.

Since Christ made it quite clear that He had come to die, that alone is proof enough that He did not marry. Widows in those days did not have an easy life. Can you see Him being so selfish as to marry when He knew He was not going to be around? I can't.

Also, at the cross, He entrusted his mother to John, but He never mentions entrusting the care of a wife to anyone.

It would have been *VERY* odd for any rabbi or, for that matter nearly any 30 year old man, to not be married; so normal that it would bear no comment.

Can you prove that using only the bible?

Could you find me a list like that debunking ET?

I know that the phone that ET used to phone home was a Ring Tone model whereas interstellar phone systems all use Pulse dialing.

And I know that the brand of bicycles that the kids were flying across town in are not actually rated for the heights or speeds they were flying,

But it seems like there was something technically wrong with the flying saucer drive system?

Anybody remember this??

Shut up Mel. I guess he's the only person allowed to make a movie that addresses religious beliefs. And many of the events in his movie were made up as well. What a pompous ass. And an anti-semite to boot!

I haven't read the book or seen the movie, but some folks enjoy a mystery story without going bonkers and believing it's the truth. "Brownism" is becoming a cult for the latter group.

What is there to enjoy that this Christ has to be the subject so unvalued that He is fair game to cast the ignorant into unbelief

Christ is 'fair game' for those who want to be rebellious without facing any real danger in the here and now. They know we won't chop of their heads.

People can peacefully object to this film and it won't bother me a bit. What they'll do is actually draw more attention to it. So far, however, I'm not really seeing any "rage" about this. Just a lot of talk.

No censorship in favor of any religion.
The Muslims, the Jews, Christians, aetheistics, agnostics, pagans, wiccans, etc. all have to live with people questioning their beliefs, at least in the US.
That is as it should be.

I would not go along with trying to set the free speech standard at the lowest possible level, aka Mohammed cartoons.

Fair play means forcing the MSM to show the Mohammad cartoons.

This was also the same reason 'Passion' became such a hit. Its just that while the critics of Passion were liberal secular media types , the critics of Da Vinci Code are the conservative christian type.

You really should stop with the broad assertions not based in reality. The fact is, evangelical Christians would have flocked to see the Passion whether or not there was any controversy surrounding it. Some people actually want, gasp, to see movies in line with their worldview.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this thread. I don't know if that cancels it out. A lot of people on here have GWB right next to Jesus in their minds.

Hello , there are a lot of Scots who say that Bruce betrayed Wallace. No one in here will ever know what happened since Scots only told stories of histroy usually in the pubs on cold scot nights. But the Bible is something different. if you want to go to see the di vinci code go. But it is a farce, sorry try as hard as they can, and for centuries they have tried , the goodness and Love of Jesus always wins out. In the end jesus will remain long after Forest Gump and Opie are dust, and forget about Gandgoof he is aready toast . his movies , down the tubes.

it is FICTION, folks. It is not fact. It is a theory and I have to say, the book had me from beginning to end. It didn't change my beliefs. But, who am I to say my beliefs are right? I may be off in what I've been told. I know that our bible has lost translations along the way. What if Jesus was married? What if he had kids. He was mortal. He lived and died amongst us. He was a carpenter. He bled the same as we all do. He was human.

The book and the movie make you think. But no matter how you slice it, it's still fiction. Everyone should just chill out. There will always be conspiracy theories. If you hold tight to your own faith, a book or a movie will not move you from your faith.

The patriot was never portrayed as legit. Patriot is no different than any WW II movie with fictional heroes.

You really need to focus.

The Passion vs Davinci Code is the central issue here. The Passion was made to be accurate and preserve the actuall period language, the davinci code is made specifically to further a feminazi view of christianity by relying on forgeries and proven fake writings. (specifically a frenchman liar who admitted he made the whole story up so he could claim lineage to the french throne.)

And an anti-semite to boot!

So I guess not only is Mel Gibson antisemitic, but also those Jewish men who wrote the N.T.

Cordially,
