LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "The Da Vinci Code" banked an estimated $29 million at the box office on its first day in theaters, an industry official said Saturday, positioning the film to turn in the strongest opening weekend for any movie this year.

I suspicion there was much more FREE 'marketing' done with all the hue and outcry! LOL
along with all the off-shoot programs on History/Nat'l Geo and other channels on Opus Dei, Knight's Templar, Roslyn Chapel, Mary Magdalene, etc ;o)
Where would you get that? I have posted hundreds of posts on the subject and read most of the threads. I have not seen anyone support a ban. There might be some support for a boycott, but most just want to discredit the lies Brown puts forth as fact. Most would have been happy with a disclaimer. Real people and groups should not be slandered under the guise of 'it's fiction'.
Do you support banning the movie?
Do you support banning the book?
If so, you are just like them.
Talk about it, educate people ... but don't act like a hardline fanatic.
It's a @&%$ing NOVEL !!!!!!
Dan Brown can claim his book is based on fact from now until Doomsday. That doesn't mean the book is based on fact.
Should have also been colored blue.
Why should Gates, etc be pi$$ed.
"Blue Apple" is a code word that has been around for hundreds of years
By all means talk it up and educate people. Boycott too. But, IIRC, the book is one of the biggest sellers in history.
TWM was kidding, yo.
BTW, Dan Brown's new book (due out soon) is about Mormonism. Will you be there shouting down the book?
Dan Brown defends the slanderous conspiracy theories he puts out, the promotion of the movie indicates otherwise, and most of his supporters believe it. So the 'it's fiction' line does not cut it.
No one is acting like a fanatic. There is more fanaticism on the side of Brown who want to shut up the criticism.
If Mormons are presented as a bunch of muderous thugs, I would. If the basis of the book is factual, that's another thing. Mormons tend to be decent people, although misguided in some critical areas.
Brown's defenders are this year's version of Natalie Maines.
COUNTRY MUSIC FANS: Hey Natalie! Your statements overseas were stupid, so we aren't gonna give you our money anymore!
NATALIE MAINES: Freedom of speech! Freedom of speech! You're trampling on my freedom of speech!
Yeah, PC-cons is a nicer term than I would use though. There are some who would like to exterminate all signs of Christianity out of the conservative movement.
I see you got my point! LOL
Which is where all this hoopla about the Davinci Code is going.
I really enjoyed the book (which I listened to on audio CDs) up until they got into that whole albino assassin thing. After that I pretty much waited for it to end.
Really, any Christian whose faith was swayed must have been hanging by a thread to begin with.
I read an entertaining article about the new book on Mormonism. It promises to be as incendiary for Mormons as the Da Vinci Code is to Christians.
This isn't about swaying Bible-believing Christians. It's about fooling non-believers and the ignorant.
This is a battle for those lost souls. This isn't about protecting Christians.
You beat me by 27 seconds.
Non-believers aren't going to believe so you have lost nothing there. If they later are drawn to the faith they will learn the truth. Ignorant people are easily swayed ... by anything ... not just a best seller.
