AP: "Too Close to Call"

NEW ORLEANS — Voters were deciding Saturday whether incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin or challenger Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu should oversee this city's long recovery from Hurricane Katrina — one of the largest reconstruction projects in U.S. history.

Whoever wins the too-close-to-call election takes office a day before the June 1 start of the next hurricane season in a city where streets are still strewn with rusting, mud-covered cars and entire neighborhoods consist of homes that are empty shells.

I can say, right now, with great authority (firsthand), that at least one of the buses to New Orleans from Houston, taking the Katrina voters, has returned.

Evacuee neighbors screaming at each other again, after a whole day of quiet.

I watched one of the debates and was so impressed with one of the candidates. How sad that he didn't get a chance to work for his city.

Nothing will change. Corruption and then some.

Whomever wins will be in charge of billions of dollars for reconstruction.

I watch the vote totals in the two white districts that have contests, and the one black district that has a contest, and see what the relatively percentages are, of the vote counted. There are five districts, two of which, both black, don't have contests.

Nagin is not really corrupt. I would trust him with funds rather than the Landrieu machine

An analyst on WWL TV is saying Landrieu has 80% of the 'white vote' so far, and Nagin has 80% of the 'African-American vote'.

Damn, I want the Landrieus defeated. Landrieu spent all this money and it would send a good sign for political donors to switch from his Sister to a Republican in the US Senate race

The good news is that there would be a black backlash against Blank-Oh in the next governor election. She is the evil one who must be defeated.

I have to hold my nose, but I hope Nagin wins. He's a buffoon, but I don't think he can do as much damage as Landrieu. With Moon Jr. in charge, millions of federal dollars would literally go down the toilet.

Agree, there's no learning curve with the Landrieu crime family. They will hit the ground voraciously hungry.
