Christians Must Denounce Iran Now Before Catastrophe; Statement on Iran Requiring Jews, Christians and Other Religious Minorities to Wear Identifying Badges

WASHINGTON, May 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rev. Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK) is president of the National Clergy Council in Washington, DC, and is coordinator of an ongoing dialogue between American Evangelicals and Moroccan Muslims. He is a board member of the Evangelical Church Alliance and an advisor to the Institute on Religion and Public Policy. Mr. Schenck released this statement today regarding Iran's passage of a law requiring Jews, Christians and other religious minorities to wear markings on their clothing identifying them as non-Muslims:
"This only proves that the worst in human history does repeat itself. The Bible says the heart of man is 'desperately wicked: who can know it?' The Iranian leadership proves the point. Christians must speak out loudly and immediately to denounce this atrocious action. We were silent too long during the 1930's and millions were murdered as a result.
"Speaking for thousands of church leaders from all Christian traditions, I urge President Bush, Secretary Rice and Congress to take swift and severe action against Iran and enforce the most dire of consequences should the country enact this supremely inhuman decree.
"Furthermore, I urge all people of conscience in Iran and outside to resist this egregious violation of human rights and take whatever action necessary to rescue those in danger. We must open our hearts, homes and wallets to prepare now to save those who will suffer. May God have mercy and spare us the horror of 60 and 70 years ago."

It will be interesting to see if the religious 'leaders' who were quick to come out in support of ILLEGAL immigration will speak out against the mad Iranian "President". Or will the world, once again, wait until a holocaust occurs?
And, what, I wonder, will the UN do to stop this mad man? Ok, stop laughing.......the UN...lol.
It seems, that if he wanted, he could speak a lot more about worldwide Christain persecution.
How do we defend non-Muslims -- which I agree that we must do -- without letting it get turned into an excuse for Bush to go to war with them, too?
Unless we are prepared to kick every Muslim ass out of the US & Europe and back across the Bosphorus, we'd be asking for a world of trouble by attacking Iran -- even if Iran does deserve it!

No one is trivializing anything. Or would you trivialize the fact that it was the Jews that crucified Jesus, stoned Stephen to death, crucified Peter upside down, and assisted the Romans in persecuting St. Paul (who was later sawed in half!) and beheading John the Baptist? Nothing against them, but the Jews are not the saints you make them out to be. Every group has their dark moments in history.

Yes... they have done and would like to do far worse.
But at the same time there is someting very emotional about the badges and if this resonates and moves public opinion in a way the threats and the history have not, then we might as well welcome the effects even if it is sad that the other things have not already cause this reaction.
Nothing against them, but the Jews are not the saints you make them out to be. Every group has their dark moments in history.

Crucifixtion was Roman. The power to crucify was only Roman. When someone focuses the blame on "the Jews" it usually is saying something the speaker doesn't intend. Not to mention that no one who had anything to do with that has been alive for 1900+ years.
