Illegals granted Social Security (05/18/06-Senate 50-49 vote/based on past illegal employment ????)

The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents. "There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me," said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. "It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment." The Ensign amendment was defeated on a 50-49 vote. "We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy," said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican. "The Ensign amendment would undermine the work of these people by preventing lawfully present immigrant workers from claiming Social Security benefits that they earned before they were authorized to work in our community," he said. "If this amendment were enacted, the nest egg that these immigrants have worked hard for would be taken from them and their families." Mr. Ensign was among 44 Republicans and five Democrats who voted to block such payouts

This is a betrayal of public trust. Betrayal of truth. If an American statesman did this a couple of generations ago he would be gone end of story. People have no voice! When the people have lost their voice this republic has failed.

This is why you don't trust government. This is why indeed.

I suppose the Republicans like it better when they're the minority party, because that's what happens when they behave like Democrats.

George Bush, Bill Frist, and Dennis Hastert have effectively ended the Reagan Revolution. You can't blame it Democrats.

The sell-out of America. The bush legacy.......

A third generation legacy actually. That's not Tinfoil it is the political truth on relaibale sources. GHW Bush's father Prescott helped establish the Liberal wing of the GOP.He was a staunch supporter of Nelson Rockefeller's bid for the Oval Office. This was by no means traditional Conservatism it was and still is Liberal Republicans supporting big government but protecting big business the one and only major issue that separates them from Liberal DEMs. Now they control the GOP in policy.

When is Alexander up for re-election? I've NEVER liked him. He's got to go.

Four more years I think. Maybe 2008 though. Alexander is a Big Government shill wearing a flannel red checkered shirt pretending to be a conservative. He was HELPED into the senate like many other RINO's between 2002-present because of his association of being in Poppy's Administration. We could have done better. Ed Bryant tried to run against him but Alexander was given a heads up on Thompson's retirement and an unofficial nod in support for the seat in Washington, DC namely from the RNC and White House.

We must swamp these "representatives" with emails, phone, fax, direct confrontations to stop this absolute f****** outrage.

Waiting for an election will not work.

Agree. This abomination of a bill MUST be squashed. McCain, Frist, Brownback and Hagel were all for it... and all have presidential aspirations.

We are rife with Judas's.

This whole situation is exactly why border security needed to be voted on separately - and why certain senators had to make sure it wasn't. I don't think the senate and house bills will be able to be reconciled. The border will remain porous and there will be no beefed-up employer sanctions. The industries that absolutely depend on a virtually unlimited supply of easily-exploited illegal workers are seeing to this.

This could end up being a nightmare for any American Citizen who employed an Illegal "off the books"..

The "illegal" could submitt paperwork saying they worked for Mrs. Smith as a Nanny or landscaper..then ask Mrs. Smith to sign papers to verify their employment, thus dragging Mrs. Smith into direct "violation" of the Nanny Tax law..

If the IRS catches you cheating, it can collect not only the back taxes, but penalties and interest too. Then there's the time and possible legal costs involved in fighting the charges.

This could get very interesting...

Great "reform". Pay them back Earned Income Tax Credits, vest them with SSI. Maybe we can peel them some grapes and massage their feet too.

illegal aliens receive these benefits after 8. Nice.

Given the current state of affairs, would it make sense for US citizens to lie about about being illegal-aliens and apply for a new IDs? I mean, how will the government track this?

One could collect under the original SSN and again under the new SSN. Am I missing something here? If no, then what's to prevent fraud in the millions?

Well isn't that special. Why don't we also grant them back pay for job they never had and give them refunds for tax returns they never filed.

Time to turn a lot of the Sanate out on its ear in favor of true American statesmen.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////

This should be easy to accomplish. We only need sixty to crush the opposition. Two each state...lots of red states. . Why can't this be done? The Republican party can be made responsive in primaries by running conservative candidates against the Rhinos.
