The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents. "There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me," said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. "It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment." The Ensign amendment was defeated on a 50-49 vote. "We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy," said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican. "The Ensign amendment would undermine the work of these people by preventing lawfully present immigrant workers from claiming Social Security benefits that they earned before they were authorized to work in our community," he said. "If this amendment were enacted, the nest egg that these immigrants have worked hard for would be taken from them and their families." Mr. Ensign was among 44 Republicans and five Democrats who voted to block such payouts

Good lord..tkathy, how can you be that naive?!..

I maintain that if you were in their shoes you would probably be doing more or less the same thing. Politics is about getting reelected!
The politicians I have know personally have all been outstanding individuals.

All of the republican politicians are under constant vicious asault in the media, while totally incompetent democrat policians like the Louisiana governor and the N.O. mayor get a free ride.
Actually that would be 16 quarters. 4 years x 4 quarters. :-) No matter, it still wrong!!
Mob rule. Plain and simple.
Has the nation lost it's collective mind altogether? Am I alone in wondering if all of this is not going to begin a civil war? No, I'm not suggesting one.
"Personally, I think it's long past time for a revolution."
Oh, there's my answer. I'm not alone in wondering if all of this might lead to a civil war. Again, I'm not suggesting any armed conflict. But it seems that many skirmishes, even on American soil, have begun over much less than this.
"If they have been using fake cards -- how can they get any benefits? Is the Senate that stupid???"
NO the Senate is NOT stupid! The Senate is ELITIST! The Senate has also apparently sold its conscience to treasonous elements.
Even though the Constitution was amended to allow for the direct popular election of federal senators, the amendment never changed the fact that the senators are sent BY the states. If your state legislature is more patriotic on the immigration issue, it needs to be approached to put pressure on your federal senators in the right direction.
Well said and I'm sure your not alone.
If the 'Republican'party is in trouble this 2006 election cycle, it's because 'conservatives' are stepping out from the sidelines.
By being on this web site (and there are others) and reading the posts you can be assured you are not alone.
.........I don't think anyone is arguing against lawfully present workers. If I rob a bank and invest the money in T-Bills, should I be able to collect the proceeds?........
Depends on who appointed the Judge hearing the case.
Here's the Senate Roll Call weblink. It will post all the 50 bone-head Senators that seem to believe Illegals should be given Social Security and Medicare benefits. View the Senate directory and write/phone these clowns and ask them if their resumes are current.

There truly is no hope for this country anymore.
Re my tagline, looks like the enemy is also our government.
We Republicans can handle the never ending "vicious assault by the media".
The difference between the Rats and us, is that we try to police our own and get rid of the RINO'S..
As for New Orleans. It's a cess poll and hell hole of everything that's rotten. I could care less who runs it.

AND THANKS IN LARGE PART TO FREEREPUBLIC AND OTHERS, THESE CLOWNS DIDN'T PULL IT OFF. THE AMNESTY RINO/LIBERAL SENATE BILL IS DEAD. IF THE ENEMY NEVER SLEEPS, THEN WE MUST STAY VILIGENT..... AND WATCH THEM.
What this means is that "all men are equal in the eyes of the law".....has been transformed into "some men are more equal than others". Suddenly its the 18th century again...where one's prospects, penalties, permisssions and prohibitions are defined by whether or not he is a member of the currently politically correct crowd clustering at the feet of the King..........
Your post confuses me,
First -all men are 'not' created equally.
The environment into which you are created, is a product of your forefathers.
America, like all countries is a product of our forefathers. Their struggles have created our environment, which is Americans to protect, cherish and defend.
Being a republic, the American people will express their desires by voting, and those laws are the laws of the land.
Countries where citizens have little or no rights, are products of their environments. There will be struggles for freedom, there will be attempts to subdue freedom.
America is a beacon, a guideing light, an example of what can come of struggle, morals, freedom, love of liberty and God. We are not created equally, never were, never will be.
'Give onto ceaser what is ceasers' .... as then, is now,
obey the laws of the land !
