The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents. "There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me," said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. "It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment." The Ensign amendment was defeated on a 50-49 vote. "We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy," said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican. "The Ensign amendment would undermine the work of these people by preventing lawfully present immigrant workers from claiming Social Security benefits that they earned before they were authorized to work in our community," he said. "If this amendment were enacted, the nest egg that these immigrants have worked hard for would be taken from them and their families." Mr. Ensign was among 44 Republicans and five Democrats who voted to block such payouts

"off the books" means they have no proof of paying in, so they cannot retroactively collect.

The "illegal" could submitt paperwork saying they worked for Mrs. Smith as a Nanny or landscaper..then ask Mrs. Smith to sign papers to verify their employment, thus dragging Mrs. Smith into direct "violation" of the Nanny Tax law..

1)That's what Mrs. Smith gets for hiring an illegal.

2)This may be why some who haven't voted right before (Collins, Dayton, Snowe, etc.) voted against this.

It is time to change SS #s I guess. Isn't it our duty as patriotic Americans to help out the soon to be bankrupt system, by paying into it with multiple accounts? Well, how fair is that? If Sen. Leaky Leahy says it's unfair to "steal" their illegally obtained funds, isn't it just as unfair to make them prove they had them to begin with? Gosh, next you'll be wanting them to show ID at the voting booth!

I saw this crap on CSPAN. Ensign couldn't even get these jerks to be quiet while he argued his points. Ensign explained that the illegals are committing identity fraud and stealing social security numbers from Americans, creating much hardship for the REAL social security holder. Also, the most disgusting part, is that they will be paid SS based on earnings earned illegally. How they anticipate on figuring that one out is beyond me.

As it stands now, SS will be bankrupt in 2040. I think that is far too optimistic an estimate. A more pressing concern is the amount of hospital emergency rooms closing due to being overrun with illegals. Health care is becoming a joke. Every person who is able to pay and/or has insurance is paying for the additional expense and it will only get worse.
