BLACK JACK, Missouri (AP) -- The City Council has rejected a measure allowing unmarried couples with multiple children to live together, and the mayor said those who fall into that category could soon face eviction.
Olivia Shelltrack and Fondrey Loving were denied an occupancy permit after moving into a home in this St. Louis suburb because they have three children and are not married.

occupancy permit??
I take it that you obtain it at the same place you obtain your travel papers.

By far most of the comments on the blog follow along the lines of "Marriage is just a piece of paper!" So is a driver's license, an insurance card, a contract, a deed.
If marriage is 'just a piece of paper,' it's because the rights and privileges of the institution have been being pulled away for years now.

People can whine about umarried people cohabiting while simultaneously not wanting the government to step in and tell us who is allowed to live with whom.

And BTW, I have no dog in this hunt so to speak. I do not, nor ever will have kids, a dog, cat, or even a house plant.

Thanks spunkets. I was thinking this was something completely separate from building code or should be so far as the structure was concerned. Appears a little too regulated on the surface. I suppose I should check into my own towns building code

Lawsuit city if were me. Me too. I lived with my husband before we were married. Here in Sacramento they actually have confidential marriage licenses. They are not accessible by the general public. It was made for people who lived together and may want to keep their actual marriage date secret.

There's no requirement for these people to live in Black Jack. Indeed. Count me as one of them.

How, exactly, is this the government's business? Don't they have more important things to be worrying about?

"Both groups want to use the force of government to enforce their preferred morals" A government without any religious moral standards is, well, exactly what we have today; a nation of lawlessness with inverted, perverted, twisted GOVERNMENT-INVENTED "morals" being forced down our throats, like homosexual 'marriage', five ILLEGAL ALIEN families living in a one bedroom apartment, 'assisted' suicide, abortion on demand, drive-through divorce, multi culturalism, 'tolerance', feminism, legalized pornography, legalized prostitution; everything goes in a government without Christian values.

Obviously we should force the couple to split up so the child grows up in a single family home, Its the Christian thing to do!
Someone explain what the difference is between living with someone monogamously and marriage is. And I'm going to preemptively debunk the argument that its about a lifelong commitment because it would be 10X easier to get a divorce than to sell the house. Legal marriage means nothing in America, nothing. All it is, is a 1/2 chance that the guy will lose 1/2 of his property and have his children raised by his wife's new husband.
