[history]
I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

Let's post our thoughts and have a great debate. Let's also keep it CIVIL.If the keywords currently in place are any indication, your directive doesn't stand a chance.

I see a newbie or retread troll has already entered this thread. It is quite amazing to see so many of Al Gore's former campaign workers posting here on FR.
The guy hasn't even made the speech and already getting the usual hate-filled posts.

If Bush is going to tell us AGAIN their path to citizenship must be earned and it's not amnesty, I say to him "that path begins when they illegally cross our border"..and he darn well knows it, so do they Huh, that is not the path to citizenship and you know it.

I don't find that disappointing at all. If the National guard can free up Border patrol and help with logistics that will be beneficial.

I'm willing to give the speech a chance..but these days....almost anything important in the speech has already been leaked to the press. Unless it's being rewritten as we type....

David Frum is a prat. He was the one who got everyone riled up over Harriet Miers, he whined about the Dubai port deal, and he is mostly interested in getting face time on TV and invites to DC cocktail parties. He is an insignificant dweeb, and a Canadian who should go home.

Gee, a whole 6,000 National Guard.
Although they will probably help the BP as they assist in their support role, the first thing I thought of when I heard this was "using the military as a meals on wheels" like Limbaugh used to say.

Dr. Evil: Here's the plan. We get the warhead, and we hold the world ransomed for.....One MILLION DOLLARS!!
No.2: Ahem...well, don't you think we should maybe ask for *more* than a million dollars? I mean, a million dollars isn't exactly a lot of money these days. Virtucon alone makes over nine billion dollars a year!
Dr. Evil: Really?
No.2: Mm-hmm.
Dr. Evil: That's a number. Okay then. We hold the world ransom for.....One hundred..BILLION DOLLARS!!

Bush could care less about our border security. He is apparently obligated to others in this regard.

"The guy hasn't even made the speech and already getting the usual hate-filled posts."
rove has already leaked a lot of it. See other threads.
Strategically he always does this. It's insane. It mutes the impact of the speech and gives political opponents time to hone their talking points for the Demo. Response.

Exactly. I'm afraid they'll be used the same way they are used in Arizona..as mechanics instead of national guard.
The National Guard is supposed to guard the nation.
