I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
Hear! Hear! Right on. W provided the same leadership five years ago, and the Congress didn't want to do anything about it. Now that it has festered to a big problem, everyone wants to say its W's fault and he should have done something sooner. If there is going to be a bill signed into law, it has to get through the Senate. That means it can't be just a "build a fence" and "throw employers in jail" bill. He's doing a much better job on this and other issues (like Iraq) than he's being credited.
There have not been 300 removed messages. I watch these threads and I see removed messages here and there. The removed messages are almost always quoted by someone else before they are removed.
The fact of the matter is that virtually no one is calling for mining the border.
I find it interesting that you guys keep trying to dissuade people from the Third party option. Your rhetoric is always either 'elect a democrat' or 'stay home.' One wonders whot the real trolls are here.

Thank you for that post.
Hey don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Bush doesn't have the last say on this. The conservatives in the House are our last lines of defense.
The Senate for all intents and purposes thanks to weak leadership and/ or lack of conservatives is already a lost cause.
I suspect every Mexican in Mexico who had access to a tv is now in the process right now of loading up the car, bike or mule for the trek north...
Pukin,
I think my statement was pretty calm. Your response says it all about you though.
I know it cant be fixed overnight. I also know that the security proposals, IF THEY COME TO FRUITION, might help stem the tide. Do I wish the guest worker program wasnt mentioned? Of course. But, and Im being serious here, Im not sure what you wanted from the speech. An immediate roundup and deportation? Not gonna happen, whether we like it or not. Do you have an alternative? Id like to hear it.
This is my opinion, go ahead and flame away, but here goes. America doesnt have the stomach for mass deportation. As I have posted before, Elian Gonzalez type raids repeated nightly on CBS, et al, coupled with busloads of kids and pregnant women on busses heading for the border, would be a boon to the Pelosis, Kennedys, and the usual suspects. Bush and anyone connected to him would be villified wors then they are now. The Dems would reign, again, not on ideas or anything productive, but as "we werent the ones who did it".
Although, even I see the irony in Clinton strong arming Elian and Bush advocating a guest worker program..
I've never sat out an election in my life -- not even a small local election. So far I'm two for three and the two decent people are up for re-election.
There is no sense in bringing rational thinking to this thread, it's a waste of time
Remarks like yours just go to show how low FR has sunk in the past few years and is why I lurk 99% of the time, as there is such little worthwhile being posted any more.
Good night.
"If there is guest worker program then employer accountability would have to be a part of this."
If you cannot and will not deport even an illegal immigrant now, what makes you think you will deport a "guest worker" who simply decides to stay, without ever, EVER following the rules of leaving and coming back on a renewal of his "guest worker" pass. He will just start a new mob in the street, demand that you cannot deport 10 million, 20 million, 30 million "guest workers" who never went home.
Do you know any nations with massive "guest worker" programs? The Phillipines - quest worker exporter; Saudi Arabia, UAE, Dubai - guest worker importers; and many other cases around the world and all, on either end of the exchange are socially and politically dysfunctional countries.
What's worse than 12 million illegal immigrants - 20 million semi-permanent "guest workers" - people who are hardly ever in their "home nation" and are never citizens in the nation they are almost always in. They are a time-bomb inside a trojan horse.
Me too.
I am hearing General Myers daughter at DHS just undercut Bush's speech? Anyone have the text.
I recall a lengthy thread how she had no qualifications for overseeing the CBP.

I agree with everything you said. Calling them borderbots is no better than bushbots.
The question I have is if we have full employment how do we replace the Mexican laborers if it were physically possible to deport them.
Pray for W and Our Troops
You are emototionaly irrational tonight and have repeatably read into my posts and found things that were not there. You really need to calm down. I told you that the SC picks seem good. It takes more than a couple of decisions for a cautious person to be sure. If you can't except that...Then...Oh well.
