I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
Good luck with that.
A falling tide lowers all boats.
Perhaps some of you people should have been more vocal about these problems 5, 10, 20 and 25 years ago.
I think some on here would say:
It will be two years until illiterate Mexicans will be doing the job. :-)
I don't doubt that these are his heartfelt beliefs.
But Presidents take an oath of office to enforce our laws, not their heartfelt beliefs. To do otherwise is to make a king out of the Presidency, to put us under the rule of men instead of the rule of law.
Yeah, but "on board" whom?
Well, I voted for him the first time, and I've kicked myself from time to time for that action. However, to be fair, Bush's enforcement provisions impress me as a good start, and I hope he sticks to them. I wouldn't dare legalize or guest-worker these people, as I'm sure some of these people want to remake the S.W. USA into Aztlan, Republica del Norte, or just plain ol' Mexico.
Move from Who-ville?
Make that two:) count me in!
What it means is here comes your "National ID Card."
"Third, we need to hold employers to account for the workers they hire. It is against the law to hire someone who is in this country illegally. Yet businesses often cannot verify the legal status of their employees, because of the widespread problem of document fraud. Therefore, comprehensive immigration reform must include a better system for verifying documents and work eligibility".I hope this doesn't mean until we develop a better system for identification these employers will skate?
Papers, please?
Before anyone goes into reflex-flame mode, think it through. There is no other logical interpretation of that statement.

I have no problem with it.
I was simply replying to someone who was worried they might get a social security card that actually had some ID authentication as part of it. the government is mining credit card purchases and UPS/FEDEX records to find people who buy cigarettes online to avoid taxes, and we've got people saying an ID card is the "end of the world". if a proper ID card meant that employers would have to square up their employment, or face sanctions - sign me up.
2006 is an mid-term election year so turnout is key. The illegal immigration issue will most likely have a depressing effect on conservative voter turnout and will make all GOP officials vulnerable.
I see only one person around here invoking race -- YOU.
You seem to have an unresolved problem with white Europeans. Find a more constructive way to deal with it.
The past cannot be changed; nobody will rise from their grave to apologize to you for their decisions, nor will their descentants make any remuneration on their behalf. It is what it is and it will never be anything else. YOU, however, must decide what to do with your future; you hold it in your hands, and it will become only what you make of it; good or evil. You, alone, will take the glory or the blame. Choose.
My ancestors came in the mid-1800's with the clothes on their backs. When they went to their graves they owned homes and had moeny in the bank. That opportunity still exists for people who are willing to work instead of whine.
We came when there WAS NO "IMMIGRATION" LAW, but what laws there were got enforced. We ask no different now. NOW there ARE IMMIGRATION LAWS, and all we're asking is that they get enforced.
THAT isn't racist; it's a simple appeal to the rule of Law.
Sure, you put up $10,000; I'll go have a beer. It still won't help your idiotic post make any more sense, but at least it'll be a beer.
"The conservatives lost everything tonight."
Oh yeah, we should follow the socialistic French approach to politics. Right. We have lost nothing. We will prevail, and if we don't on this particular issue, the Pub party in general will have lost everything tonite, not just the conservatives. We will lurk in the weeds, through another Dem administration, until, just like in France, things get so bad that we will be welcomed back with open arms as saviours, this time true conservative saviours, not with the RINO's we are now dealing with, whon are the same as Dems anyhow. So, like a Phoenix, if we lose in the short run, we shall rise from the ashes in the long run. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. In France, it seems things just keep getting worse, and there is no better. Socialism will do that to you.
lol. excellent rant.
Followed by Durbin's comments. Double Unghh.
If this country is not ripe for a third party takeover, I don't know if it ever will be. God help us.
