I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
FreeRpublic is a great place to get leads but most of you don't have a clue. I don't worry being called names. I would love to tell you what I have but you will have to read it in the papers.
I will make sure to post to you when it breaks.
""Did he say anything about clamping down on people who employ illegals?"
"NO!!!"
He did so - -you must have missed that part. He added that part of the problem is all of the forged documents. If you look at the bills that were passed in about 1996, it is ILLEGAL for employers to ask if a candidate for a job is legal - - they need to accept the documentation, which includes drivers licenses and personal ID cards provided by a state (very easy to forge). If you're interested in reading these bills, let me know and I'll post them for you.
Nice spin. Why not up the ante and say "1,236,000 more bones on the border"?
It's almost time for his rice pudding.
Scary stuff. I'm all for legal immigration and think legal immigrants who learn English and assimilate into our communities contribute a lot. Illegals - send them home.
In N. Va., just about every fast food place has migrant workers, illegals, whatever. They claim they're just doing the jobs Americans won't do. Hmmm. When I was a teenager I depended upon work on farms and in fast food restaurants to make a living. I wonder what our teenagers are doing for work now?
Hum just tried to call Lamar Alexander's senate line in my area. Mailbox full. This being a conservative area with more than enough illegals I'd see his workers got an ear full waiting on them in the morning.
The one HUGE difference is Bush says he will stop the flow of illegals. It's a big task, that I would much rather give the pubbies a shot at doing than Nancy Pelosi and Hillary.
>>Yes, I know...has a President ever hit a single digit approval rating?<<<
Not yet, but soon. But I don't think he gives a damn. He'd rather be back home on the ranch, fishing, anyway.
Maybe he'll get his wish sooner than he thinks.
"Many of the families were here before the Mayflower even launched."
Slight correction. The Mayflower landed in 1620. Jamestown, the 1st permanent English settlement, was in 1607.
I invite you to come to "the birthplace of America", the Old Dominion, the great state of Virginia and celebrate with us, our 400th birthday in 2007.
My fantasy was that he would say that he will put 50 thousand armed troops on the border and start building the wall tomorrow....then I could have gotten excited.
We will have a few thousand more border patrol in a few years but the massive waves of illegals will continue to get in.
We only catch one in 5 or one in 10....deport them and they will try again until they get in.
Sorry I can see an Armed camp like say in China, but not here..
You are absolutely correct. The President should have called for the same sanctions, i.e., withholding funding, that have been used to compel states to require seat belt usage and crack down on drunk driving, to force states and municipalities to have their police agencies cooperate with the Feds in cracking down on illegal immigrants.
Bush's speech, on the other hand, is entirely principled and has nothing to do with politics. Were you being sarcastic?
I expect there would a test involved for english skills. Its hard to fudge a test.
Oh, I get it, there's been no Hispanic population explosion over the past two decades, they were here the whole time, we just didn't notice them (/sarcasm)
You forgot the mine fields.
